A thought about resupply depots
Just a thought about resupply depots. Posting it here in WW2 forum but also applies to MBT.
The real world resupply elements that these units represent usually feature vehicles that support resupply requests. Battalion or Brigade HQ companies have Supply & Transport platoons that help front line units. Most units do not have to go to the resupply point,( although it happens given a dire situation) their request is brought to them. Also it has been discussed about how the AI does not utilize resupply properly.
A resupply unit currently has a range of a few hexes. Could this range be increased in the code? Example: a range of ten with the tenth hex having a 10% resupply rate of the first hex. This would both simulate the resupply unit and S&T assets that have organic vehicles and personnel to fullfill resupply. Supply canisters or vehicles that move could stay the same.
Giving a larger range could help AI units since any supply depots on the AI side would automatically reupply units near them.
Valid question or am I just dreaming?

Re: A thought about resupply depots
Just dreaming.
Resupply units are an abstraction, and a wee cheat vs. the AI for humans that use them when it cannot.
Resupply units will only supply one unit at a time - one of the first things I fixed when we got the source code. The original SSI code resupplied all touching units, so players would camp entire companies around 1 ammo carrier for the infinite supply.

Re: A thought about resupply depots
OK, just one unit at a time still works. Could the range be increased so it would simulate an ability to resupply an area? A range of ten would equal the frontage for a battalion trains. This would leave the mobile resupply vehicles to cover further reaches of the battlefield.

Re: A thought about resupply depots
The ammo bunker and dump already provide supply at half rate at 2 hexes. Spread those about the defended area and some troops will get filled up.

Re: A thought about resupply depots
This would be worse for the AI and produce funny results.
Units are supplied in their unit purchase order so human would buy units they want resupplied first.
Therefore if a squad has spent some ammo even if just a couple of shots it will be topped up if its the first unit that needs ammo in the roster. Another unit could be nearly empty but it would never get to them you would have to put a normal ammo resupply unit beside it.

Re: A thought about resupply depots
Thanks all for the feedback. I guess I will have to continue to buy jeeps/wagons/bren carriers...etc with ammo containers to represent A&S platoons to resupply forward units. I also buy 'medical' vehicles and use them to run forward to pickup bailed out crews and retreated squad fragments.

Better yet, put them (and the milans) on Spartans - those go like the proverbial brown stuff off a digging implement, and can survive arty fire esp. mortars etc, if you hang around too long before displacing.
(duh!) - WW2 forum, not MBT... slaps self with trout
