Question Speed of Apache?

Hiya folks,

I noticed some discrepancies between the various OoBs the AH-64 Apache appears in. Whilst I understand some (eg UK Westland) have different (more powerful?) engines etc are the USA's really the slowest? and is the new E series really that fast????

AH-64 A
USA - 92
Egypt - 94
Holland - 94
Greece - 94
Israel - 94
Saudi - 98?

AH-64 D
USA - 88
Egypt - 93
Holland - 88
Greece - 88
Israel - 94 and 93
Saudi - 98??? thats 30 km/h faster
UK - 88
Japan - 88

AH-64 E
USA & Taiwan - 122
Thats 366 km/h - above all the published "Never Exceed" speeds I have seen for the Apache and makes it faster than ANY other production helicopter!?!!?

I am guessing some confusion has arisen due to difference in "Max" speed, "max cruising" speed and NE speed...

Fallout Re: Speed of Apache?

I leave you with these tables below, how it affects game speed for me right now at this moment, well I just don't feel like breaking out the calculator for.
These tables again ought to help but for perspective you'll find for speed alone many non-combat helos fly faster. Attack helos are much more about payload with for instance the AH-64E can carry 2,500lbs. more of than the AH-64D. Also maneuverability, EW, battle damage/protection, operational radius, mission capabilities and flexibility etc. etc. these along with speed is what determines how successful an attack helo is or other combat aircraft in general.

Fallout Re: Speed of Apache?

From the Boeing site below the AH-64A/D is listed as 284kph/AH-64E is listed as "Maximum Level Flight Speed-More than 150 knots (279 kilometers per hour)" to answer the base question here.

So there could be some adjustments needed and as you can also see the military doesn't have "exclusive rights" to helicopter speeds.

Thanks pat.

Yes I looked at alot of those references - all very confusing as there is very little consensus an the speed - many quoting the Never Exceed speed as it's top speed.

some are just flat wrong... (the first table in your first post above for instance gives a top speed of 411 km/h for the super cobra - this is higher than the world record for a standard helicopter!)

I guess we may never truely know the actual speeds... the closest to a concensus I can find is for the AH-64D of max = 297 or 293 km/h (99 or 98 in game terms).

I guess what I am really asking is:
a) can we get some consistancy in the OoBs - I know they were offten (at least originally) written by different folks.
b) Is the speed for the AH-64E a typo?

Fallout Re: Speed of Apache?

The opening para from Post #3 was taken directly from the Boeing website, which I forgot to post. I can see this starting to get a little crazy so let's just apply a little "KISS" to the problem.

1. Keep away from MPH and KPH!! The universal measurement that needs to used is simply KNOTS. This is the international term for "speed of advance" for all types of ships and aircraft.

2. The best and only reliable source besides a JANE's for speed will have to come from the manufacturers website followed by the military's website for that piece of equipment. Take the average if there is a difference. This is the ONLY option available to you if your want to disregard other websites.

3. Remember the context in which your looking at the data for speed i.e. with or without payload etc.

http://www.boeing.com/defense/ah-64-...specifications

You have to keep it "apples to apples" and anyone else needs to be accessed in the same consistent manner. I'm not saying you don't have a case here but, the concern is does it go beyond the APACHE helo? So this is a question of "are you all in or not" to investigate this fully.

I'll straight up say I'm not-sorry.

Got a routine EST in the morning so I can be cleared to save the dummy and fight the "red-man" later this month. Nothing like a two mile run on an empty tank, hooked up to monitors start your day!?!

I of course due to her intel background suspect a diabolical plot perpetrated on me by my MARINE friend out here.

So good night as I must maintain a vigilant state of mind!?!

Regards,
Pat

Of course there's a plot ... there's ALWAYS a plot.

Yes I understand that knots is the standard to compare - however the game speeds are derived from the km/h speed (kmph/3).

and perhaps real speed Vs game speed is irrelevant?

What IS important is consistancy. I do not believe that the Saudi AH-64D is 12% faster than the american version ot that the AH-64E is almost 40% faster than the D...

Yes I am prepared, and willing, to look at other units.
