The key thing here is that you don't ever want to be sat out in the open in his turn waiting for return shots - no duels! - ideally you want to be able to move 1 hex out of cover, squeeze off a few short range shots and duck back into your hide location. (Helps if a few grunts are in the hide as screening troops). With light tanks - "hide with pride" is the motto!.

You can say that again. So many tanks have been lost ignoring that sage advice. It's easy to be impatient, to dissipate the tension in a position and "get it over with," but that approach usually leads to disaster. Fortune may favor the bold, but in this case prudence is by far the best policy. Don't slug it out in a standup fight with the other guy's heavies!
