Retaking Khafji
Medium sized scenario. (Brigade sized force advances)
Gulf War 1991, Saudis and Allies retake the border city of Khafji from the Iraqis.
I'm not sure if this one is "easy" or "moderate" difficulty - let me know, also any problems found.
Scenario numbered as #273
Cheers
Andy

Re: Retaking Khafji
So far i've played 11 turns and difficulty seems moderate all around. Very entertaining. Lost some tanks and other vehicles to both tank fire and RPGs. 3 AMX-30s were knocked out around the salt marsh, two to tank fire and one to a Malyutka. The Cobras and LAVs have been very helpful. Looks great for a PBEM game.

Re: Retaking Khafji
Moderate difficulty for me as well.
Finished the scenario with a decisive but just barely. The Cobras did some serious damage and the Harriers got a few licks in as well.
No problems found at all.
The order of battle from the Coalition side is almost dead on. I think two additional SANG companies from an adjacent battalion were attached to the assault along with Marine ground troops from TARO. The Marines from TARO also acted as liason to CENTAF and as artillery spotters. The extra troops weren't really needed though.
Really nice job with this Andy. I wouldn't change anything at all. Had a lot of fun playing this scenario.
Are you planning to do anything with the Iraqi assaults at Umm Hujul (OP-4), OP-2 and OP-6?

All sounds good. The USMC troops are the force multipliers in this one - try the assault without them or do something stupid and lose even 1 helo to the AAA and the Iraqis can extract some hurt from the attackers. (which is what happens if you try it AI v AI usually).
Not planning any other OP ones, am however playing around with the "battle of the bridges" just now but to give the AI Iraqis a serious threat level to the Kuwaiti 2 squadrons of Chieftains and 1 BMP coy need about the whole of the 2 Iraqi Republican Guard divisions... (The AI will charge in whereas in reality they stopped after the first surprise and picked off the Kuwaitis it seems).

Re: Retaking Khafji
You've probably already seen this, but here's a link on the Battle of the Bridges:
http://www.benning.army.mil/armor/ar...ber1995web.pdf
Nice summary with maps and OOB.
I'm playing around with OP-4. Is there anything in the Marine TOE that I can use for a 6x6 5 ton truck? Is that simply a heavy truck or should I use the tank recovery transport?

Re: Retaking Khafji
Ignore the question about the 6x6 5 ton truck. It's in the US Army OOB so I'll just use that one.

It works fine for me. Try a different browser or try this link:
http://www.benning.army.mil/Armor/Ar...ackIssues.html
Then search the 1995 back issues for the September/October issue
PS: You can only view issues from 2000 or earlier. Later issues require special authorization.
