Master Computer bug?

Hey is there a bug with the MC? I'm currently in a game and it's a full tech start. I started pretty close to an empire and they have Psychic tech, and they attacked me and I lost my ship (Dread) to their Subverter even though I had MC on my ship. What's up with that... Isn't MC supposed to stop the Subverter, or at least the des. of the Subverter says so. Just thought I'd bring this out. Thanks for any help.

You didn't happen to put a bridge or such on their too did you?

Otherwise- probably a computer virus hit first.

Yes I don't think you found a bug but that first the master computer was destroyed either specifically by a computer virus or by chance by any other weapon. After the master computer is destroyed the ship becomes vulnerable to the allegiance subverter.

Q is right that is probably what happened, but I think I would call that a bug nonetheless. The fact that the computer is destroyed shouldn't make the ship subvertable. I know it does, but it shouldn't.

Well, may be there are some people onboard even if it is run by MC. Engeneres, scientists, mechanics, janitors, space tourists... They just do not have an access to master keybord or something. After all, is MC ship has just an electric circuitery and no place for crew, how boarding parties can take over such ship ?

Yes this is a common occurance. If there's no MC the alliegence subverter works. That seems to be the way most people want it.

The screams of:

"BUG" "FEATURE"
"ILLOGICAL" "BELIEVEABLE"
"MAKES MC USELESS" "MAKES SUBVERTER USELESS"
"EVERY THING MUST HAVE A COUNTER" "NO IT SHOULDN'T"

I kinda think it's illogical, and I think the MC is balanced enough because it can really bankrupt you on maintenance, but I dunno, againt the AI just a few MC ships really turn the tide.

Sorry Geoschmo but for me this is a feature not a bug because I am convinced MM wanted it to be this way. If even a destroyed master computer would protect a ship against allegiance subverter, would you still choose the psychic trait for 1500 racial points??
I wouldn't.

If you really can't tolerate that your super starbases are converted, give the hull a master computer ability! Then it can't be destroyed and will be completely protected from the allegiance subverter.

Ok yes, this ended up being the case. Virus then the Subverter did it's job. I just overlooked his designs too quick to realize he put a Virus on there. Thanks for the answers.

I sure would. But you are right, destroyed MC protecting a ship is really pulling the teeth out of a psychic race
