Swapping race portraits

Question for modders and computer gurus out there.

I like some of the stock ship sets and I like some of the stock race portraits, just not together.

I would like to be able to create new races say, using the Piundon ship set and say, the Xi-Chung racial portrait.

How do I do this? can anyone explain in baby language?

In each race's directory, there is an image xxxxx_Race_Portrait.bmp where xxxxx is the name of the race. Change that and you're good.

The size should be 128x128 pixels (I think). I'm going from memory, so correct me if I'm wrong.

(Technical) And it should be in Windows bitmap format, up to 24-bit colors.

You can also
Open the desired portrait in Paint,
File Save As
Navigate to the race you want to change pic of
Select the race_portrait.bmp file
Click Yes when prompted to replace it.

If that is not "baby talk" enough, let me know,
I'll try something else.
