Star of heroes question

It says that star of heroes gives you incresed attack value against people with shields. how much extra attack value does it give?

I have read somewhere that all spiked normal weapons (Flails, Morningstars) give you +3 to attack when attacking an enemy with a shield. This independent of what kind of shield it is. (buckler, shield, tower shield, etk) I am not sure if the star of heroes gives you anything beyond that.
