Baalz's Poison Golem won the first SC vs. SC competition, but lost the second competition. However, the winner for that was also a construct (Micah's pretender IIRC). It's also interesting that different patches sometimes change the winner/loser of the individual battles.

Siege golems are quite usefull, well, for sieging.
Golems are good, poison golems are also viable once in a while. Mechanical men + wrathful skies are a neat combo, though there are usually better uses for earth gems than summoning chaff.

One unit that didn't get mentioned was corpse man const. are they worth it? it looks like they could be really easily massable, with a staff of storms, and Igor's tome.

They are nice in CBM because of higher MR.

You can mass them even earlier, with a lightning rod. All you need is const-2, E, and a AD caster or 2 spewing them out monthly. They are handy for Yomi IMO to take some of the banishments off your demons.

Does quickening stack with haste?

Yes. Haste halves the AP point cost of movement while quicken just increases AP's.
