Installing Races

Is there another way to install new races, I did (only way?) put all new races into the race file in the main dir. then I would also put them into the mod file too....can I just put them into the main file and use the mods with them also? I do not want to put them into ALL the mods I have thhat seems kind of redundant.

Install the races into the main races dir and copy everything but .bmps to the mod dir.
