Default Battlefield Grid and Positioning Troops

If I put a troop as far right as possible (in other words, to the very front of my lines), and my opponent does the same, how many grid squares will separate us? Thanks.

P.S. just to show I am also a giver of knowlege, in addition to a leech , I just calculated that there are 17 grid squares from front to back within your own side. So a mage at the farthest back of your lines would need a range 20 spell to effect one of his own troops at the very front line.

Unfortunately, the battlefield scales with huge armies.

Ohh...hmmm. I often script spells that get bypassed because my mages are out of range so I was hoping to refine my positioning but guess that is not quite as easy as I thought.

Correct... a map will drastically increase in size for larger and larger armies.

Any guides to how big the grid can be from front to back in one's own lines and also the distance between players' lines?
E.g. Under 100 units in both armies means each player's grid is 17 squares, with [x] squares between them.

Such info would be useful to avoid mages wasting fatigue by using unscripted / useless spells b/c of misplacement.

The following thread was also talking about this. Here's an old drawing I did, it's true for small-sized armies on a regular battlefield:

You'll probably find Foodstamp's followup more helpful though.

Thanks VFB. And yes, Foodstamp's diagram will help when my Mystics need to run the nickle-back cross-over!
