Fire Brand and fire resitance

Do swords like a firebrand only do fire damage, or do they do physical damage plus an extra small area fire. As in if you are faced with say Abysia, is a fire brand able to hurt them at all?

Firebrand and dragon helmet are your friend against Abysia. Yes, most
of their troops are fire immune, but they are also heavily armoured, and
the firebrand sure helps there.
