Default On-Topic Virus Alert

Heads up, everyone. Someone sent me an email with SEIV-related info that had a virus attached. The attachment was named condition.bat, and it contained the w32.magistr.39921@mm virus.

Time to get out the h4x0r guns, and bLast em.
(GOODNESS do I HATE haxor talk, especially when some ignorant piece of trash claims to be a "haxor" when they couldn't get the case off their computer if they tried)
Sorry about the rant

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

i guess someone lost a game and is unhappy. and just when i thought this was the best community on the net. cant those kids just amuse themselves by pretending to be young girls in adult chat rooms instead of trying to send viruses to honest wargamers?

It doesn't necessarily have to be from a disgruntled player. Some viruses can pull addresses from your address book and subject lines from your mailbox, to masquerade as legitimate Messages.

I got a message with a virus that claimed to be from the PBW server, while the server was still down.

Yes, capnq, that's why I didn't give the name of the sender, who is probably a victim, not a perpetrator.

My policy is: I NEVER open unsolicited attachments, without first requesting and then receiving separate confirmation from the sender. If everybody would do this, these viruses would go nowhere.

Viruses don't have to only be off the net, Several yrs ago, I bought a software program and luckly I checked the programa before I installed, In the program was a Virus straight from the Manufacturer. I called the company, they checked, and found a virus was somehow put into all that software, they had to try and contact everyone who bought it. No it wasn't a wargame, thank goodness, because then I probably would have just downloaded it without cking. \

I agree with Puke, those who want to play go play in the chatrooms and leave us who dream of conquest do our thing and leave us alone
