New ship model trial
Hi,
Just trying out adding a new model to the game. Here's a pic (check the attachment) of my new corvette model. Obviously, there's a submarine flavor to it.
Model is about 440 tri's.
UVW mapping and texturing to follow.
Just playing at this point, but feedback appreciated.

Re: New ship model trial
Actually I think those are almost perfect!
If I could make a suggestion? Shorten the cannons in the front, move them outward more and add a bulb to the base of each so they take on a turret style flavor. Also take the back and stretch it out side to side or preferably make it more of a globe/bulb type flavor. Perfect! Now you said corvette model right? Ok assuming one ship model for every two ship sizes make seven more ship models; one smaller and six larger. Then you can take a break before I start cracking the whip to have you work on the carriers, bases, XO mounted missiles, small craft, and freighters! Then I will have a ship set for my mod! Interested in a job?

Re: New ship model trial
Here's a small update. The sides of the ship were too plain, so I added "wings". Updated the tail section. Removed the wing root cannon in favor of a chin turret.
That's all I'm going to do on this model. I want to move ahead with uvw unwrapping and a texture test.

Looks very good. Texturing it might prove to be a bit of a bear though. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Re: New ship model trial
Im not crazy about it. I preferred the first version to the second. The second just looks to generic, if you know what I mean?

Looks good, could you do a WW2 era looking battleship but for use in space? Would fit well with that first model.

Re: New ship model trial
I have a related question--I have a Vree shipset I made back in SEIV using Maya to generate 3D models. I just took screenshots then, but now that SEV uses 3D models in-game, I can use the maya .X file exporter to turn them into usable models.
However, what do you do with textures and scaling and such? How do I control how big the model is in-game, and how it's textured? Modelling is not the issue for me. But turning that model into something the game can read... how is that done?

Re: New ship model trial
The Hiigaran ship sets are great and I have been enjoying the heck out of them with this one exception, the ship is in one place during the battle and the beam or other weapon comes from no where in space, I would like the weapons to fire from the ship not space, so I'm hoping you can provide a quick fix for this thank you

Re: New ship model trial
Lose the wings, spaceships should not look like scaled up airplanes. The first version is really cool and I'd love to see a shipset in that style.

@lion_of_judah
You need to download the latest version of the shipset, which has this bug fixed
