Default FV432 not named

In the UK OOB, any reason why the FV432 aren't named 'Bulldog'?

Other AFVs/APCs are named Warrior, Spartan, Saxon...

Just wondering, as I do a lot better with names than some nondescript ####!

I feel sorry for the US, where their military just puts an M or an F in front of every bit of kit!

cheers,
Cross

The FV432 has always been called an FV432. Never, ever a "Trojan" by the troops. (Our American allies seemed to fall over laughing at the name I seem to recall !.

It is about the only vehicle where the FV series number was ever used by the troops AFAIR, and not the vehicle's name. For example - "Saracen" would be used but never "FV602" or whatever its jumble of numbers was.

There will be enough old soldiers who remember the old clunker from BAOR and so its "traditional" name will likely stick, not some made-up name thought up by a Whitehall civil service wallah.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

OK now I understand why the name of the early FV432 is not used.

Lol, as a Brit living in the US, please don't name the FV432 'Trojan', as this would make it difficult for me to 'trot it out' onto the battlefield, when playing against Americans. :-)

But I suspect what Listy said is correct. In fact I almost posted the same thing. I saw footage of troops refering to the newest version of the FV432 as 'Bulldog'.

Any reason why we can't name it 'Bulldog' in the game?
That's not the name of a prophylactic in Australia is it ;-)

cheers

Apparently, the Australian trade name for what the UK call Sellotape in the 70s was (Ahem)- Durex. This often resulted in Ozzie visitors to the UK being directed from the stationers to the chemists down the road !.
(USA viewers: Scotch tape = Sellotape, Trojan = Durex)

As A UKanian who had to go to USAnian Junior High in the late 60s - I remember making a mistake in science class (7th Grade) and turning to the girl behind me and asking if I could borrow her rubber.. - this is when I first found out that the American language has drifted far enough apart from the mother tongue not to be called "English" any more.

Cheers

The colonials Still don't understand me when I say "Kit"...

Back on topic, I'm guessing the reason why it doesn't have it's name in there is the lack of space. FV432 Mk3, lets you know exactly what it is, while the Name Bulldog doesn't unless your a spotter.

LOL, done that... I walked into an office and asked if I could have a pencil with a rubber on the end...I was met with open mouths and silence.

As for the FV432 - Yeah I think the max characters is 15 so 'FV432 Mk3 Bulldog' would not fit. But 'FV432 Bulldog' would work, and there's already the FV432 Wombat and FV432 Rarden.

cheers

.........and the "FV432 Wombat" is armed with a 120mm WOMBAT and a "FV432 Rarden" is armed with a 30mm Rarden so those are named like that to highlight their weaponry. The "FV432 Mk3" is not armed with a "bulldog" ..is it ? ( I doubt the Iraqis would be impressed... )

Hi Don,

Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious :-)

The 'Scimitar' and the 'Sabre' are not armed with swords. I wonder if the Iragis were disapointed about that? (1992)

You've given every other vehichle it's name, why not the Bulldog? If it's the offical name, and it is the name the troops use for it.

cheers,
Cross
