OOB-33 Spain - Comments & Errors observed
Well, firstly I must stress my thanks to all people that gave us the possibility to play this great game and for your constant effort to improve it.
After play some time with the latest patch (3.0) I observe some minor issues with the Spanish OOB. All are mostly unimportant and this message is not intended as a critic of the work, only a relation of observations with this OOB.
I added some clarification notes or comments to some issues at the end of the message to maintain a clearer and short itemized list of the errors or anomalies observed.
[Issue 1] Unit 030 (Leopard 2A4E) have different values of TS (Turret Side) Armor (Steel: 20 HEAT: 50) compared with the original W-German Leopard 2A4 (Unit: 030 OOB-044) TS Armor values (Steel: 27 HEAT: 42). Also the designation in Spain is 2A4 not 2A4 E.
[Issue 2] Unit 032 (Leopard 2A6E) have a wrong designation. The Spanish designation for this MBT is Leopardo 2E not A6E.
[Issue 3] Unit 044 (BMR 625 VEC) have a wrong designation. The VEC with the 90mm turret was designed VEC H90 by his Hispano-Suiza turret. Correct designation BMR 625 VEC H90
[Issue 4] Unit 045 (BMR 625 VEC (2)) have a wrong designation. Issue derived from by the problem with two vehicles with the same designation. This is the correct BMR 625 VEC.
[Issue 5]  Unit 060 (M998E TOW2) have s a wrong date of availability (1 / 092). Correct date of availability would be 1993.
[Issue 6] Unit 084 (ATP M110A2) have a wrong date of end of availability (12 / 090). The self propelled artillery M-110A2 remain in active service to this day, with the Campaign Artillery Regiment N63. By that the minimal end of availability of the ATP M110A2 would be 2 / 2007 ad-minimun. However the plans are maintain the system in service until its replacement by newer ATPs around 2008-2009.
[Issue 7] Unit 187 (LVPT-7) have a wrong date of end of availability (1 / 120). All LVPT-7 survivors in service with the BRIMAR (16) were upgraded to AAV-7A1 between 1998 and 2000. By that the correct end of availability of the LVPT-7 would be 12 / 2000.
[Issue 8] The units 193 & 195 (URO 416) have a wrong name by confusion with a similar name of a different vehicle. The UR-416 was a light armoured vehicle, but I think (with the description specs of the unit an the LBM) that the intended unit was the light tactical vehicle Uro VAMTAC (aka Rebeco) produced by the Spanish company Urovesa.
[Issue 9] A generalized issue: All Spanish infantry units quoted bellow are armed with the new H&K G-36E (weapon: 18) but remain in the OOB with the old CETME-L (weapon: 10) pic (LBM: 33099) assigned, instead the correct LBM that in my opinion would be the G-36 pic (LBM: 44217).
- Unit: 260 (Scouts).
- Unit: 275 (Infantry Sec).
- Unit: 281 (Mech Inf Sec).
- Unit: 287 (Legionarios).
- Unit: 293 (Para Section).
- Unit: 299 (Marine Section).
- Unit: 304 (Engineers).
- Unit: 374 (Montana Sec).
- Unit: 384 (Montana Scouts).
- Unit: 385 (Montana Scouts).
[Issue 10] The unit 262 (Art. Observer) with the Star Z-62 SMG (weapon: 5) have the LBM correspondent to a different weapon. And the better LBM (65027) for this unit (by its similitude with the real Z-62 has been assigned wrongly to the next two units (263 & 264) both fitted with the STAR Z-84 and H&K G-36E (weapons: 6 & 18). The better LBM for the unit 263 (Art. Observer) would be the LBM (4108) and for the unit 264 (Art. Observer) the correspondent with the G-36, LBM: 44217.
[Issue 11] Unit: 505 (HU-60 Blackhawk) is wrongly present in the Spanish OOB.
[Issue 12] The Cannon Rh-202 AC (weapon: 71) in the BO-105ATH, Units: 517 & 518 is wrongly present. The ATH version of the BO-105 in service with the Spanish Army is a missile only helicopter, without any cannon installed.
[Issue 13] The units: 515 & 516 (HA-1G Cobra & HA-1 Cobra/TOW) have a wrong end date of availability (12 / 080). Correct end availability date would be around 8 / 084, based on the official date of dissolution of the unit.
[Issue 14] Units: 522 & 523 (Tigre HAD) has been fitted with the Trigat missile (weapon: 161). But the Spanish Army will use the Rafael Spike ER (weapon: 162, OOB-04 Israel) on them, instead the Trigat.
[Issue 15] The units: 547 & 573 (Mirage F.1EDA) have a wrong end date of availability (12 / 110). All F-1EDA/DDA were excluded of the F-1M modernization process, and retired in 2000. From then they are stored and awaiting a sale or donation to a foreign Air Force (like the intended and finally frustrated with the Colombian Air Force in 2004) or more probably their turn to be scrapped.
[Issue 16] Designations of the Spanish Helicopters. Its apparent a confused situation with the local designations of the helicopters in the Spanish OOB.
The correct designation list would be the next one:
- Unit: 500 (Alouette III Ex) --> HD.16
- Units: 501 & 502 (BO-105LOH) --> HR.15
- Units: 503 (HU-10BE Iroquois) & 504 (HU-11HE Huey)  HU.10B & HU.10H
- Unit: 506 (SA 330) --> HT.21 (Army & Air Force designation) & HD.21 (SAR - Air Force designation)
- Unit: 507 (332 Super Puma) --> HT.21L
- Unit: 508 (CH-47C/D) --> HT.17
- Unit: 509 (AS-532) --> HT.27
- Unit: 510 (SH-3) --> SH-3D/H (Variants in service with the Spanish Navy)
- Units: 511 (HU-10BE Gunship) & 512 (HU-1H Gunship) --> HU.10B & HU.10H
- Unit: 513 (BO-105GSH) --> HRA.15
- Unit: 514 (Alouette III AT) --> HA.16
- Units: 515 (HA-1G Cobra) & 516 (HA-1 Cobra/Tow) --> AH-1G (In service only with the Spanish Navy)
- Units: 517 & 518 (BO-105ATH) --> HA.15
- Units: 520-523 (Tigre HAD) --> HA.28
I would suggest use only one way, that is, use the Spanish designations or use the names of the helicopter models instead. But mix the two is very confusing. But is only my own opinion, of course.
[Issue 17] The 40mm LAG-40 GL (weapon: 50) is present on some vehicles incorrectly. All Piranha III variants with those (represented on the OOB by the units: 182 & 311) were acquired by the Spanish Marines not the Army, and the Grenade Launcher used by them is the 40mm Mk-19 GL (weapon: 50, OOB-13 USMC).

Now, the next issues are perceived omissions observed in the OOB:
[Issue 18] Some helicopters now in service (or with acquisition contracts signed like the NH90) with the Spanish Army are disappeared on the OOB: HU.18 (UH-1N), NH-90TTH, HE.26 (EC-135), the Navys MD-500. Some past models with meritorious service are also not present in the OOB: HR.7 (OH-13H Sioux), HR.12 (OH-58 Kiowa) This not a error per-se but a suggestion to include them on future releases of this OOB if these are though worth of the effort on the future.
[Issue 19] The Spanish OOB is lacking of the newest SAM systems in service with the Spanish Army. The NASAMs acquired in 2003 and the Patriots acquired in 2005.
[Issue 20] The light tactical vehicle Santana Anibal. This vehicle was declared of necessary uniformity in October 2004 and is being acquired by the Spanish Armed Forces to replace the old Nissan Patrols (units: 058 & 059) and Santana Land Rovers (units: 056, 057, 192 & 194) on the task of utility vehicle, scout vehicle and light SP ATGM vehicle.
[Issue 21] Also absent is the new LCM-1E developed by Navantia to replace the old LCM (8) of the Navy, represented in the OOB by units 231 & 232 (LCM & LCM M6)
[Issue 22] Related with the issue 7. Absent in the OOB is the AAV-7A1 in service with the Spanish Marine Infantry.

Clarification Notes & Comments:
[Issue 1] The different designation in Spain was forced by the contractual status of those tanks, because the 108 Leopards were only leased for 5 years (the leasing was later extended to 2006) with yearly payments and the compromise to return the MBTs without any modification to Germany at the en of the contract. But the Spanish Army change his mind and with the new plans to upgrade the 108 tanks, these were acquired by Spain the last year by 15 million (Exp. Number IN-229/05-B) Notice published in the Spanish Official State Bulletin - January 24, 2006.
[Issue 2] The designation 2E not 2A6E, was adopted consciously to differentiate the Spanish version of the Leopard 2A6 (built in Spain by the General Dynamics subsidiary: SBS) from the Leopard 2A6Ex variant, produced by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, the name was also translated from Leopard to Leopardo and the complete designation: Leopardo 2E asigned to the MBT and used on all official statements and documents.
[Issue 4] The BMR 625 VEC was the original intended design for the VEC (Vehiculo de Exploracin de Caballera) and was fitted with the TC-25 turret (214). The H90 was a variant developed in a relative reduced number of units (94), with the substitution of the turret TC-25 with the H90 turret from retired AML-90s. Another 34 VECs were fitted with the TC-20 turret (with the 20mm Rh-202 mounted) this variant is absent of the OOB.
[Issue 5] According with the official Session Diary of the Senatorial Defense Commision (Monday 27th, Nov 1995) the first two Hummers M-998 were adquired (and received) in 1993 not in 1992. A link to the Session Diary quoted is available on PDF format on the Spanish Senate website, unfortunately only in Spanish language.
[Issue 6] The latest info about the active status of the M-110A2 was published by the Spanish Army on the Tierra Bulletin, during the Royal visit of the Asturias Prince to the Campaigh Artillery Command in November 2006.
[Issue 8] The UR-416 was a light armoured vehicle developed by Rheinstahl Maschinenbau during the late 60s and acquired by the Armed Forces of many countries, Spain included. As example, at this moment some remain active on the Spanish National Police Corps. But in the OOB, the pic, and the characteristics suggest that the intended vehicle of those two units was the Uro VAMTAC.
[Issue 11] The Spanish Armed Forces, never used the UH-60 Blackhawk, the only version under Spanish service of the Sikorsky S-70 bird is the ASW/ASuW Helicopter SH-60 Seahawk, in service with the Spanish Navy on the Five AEGIS F-100 class frigates and the Six FFGs Santa Mara Class (a total of 12 Helos)
[Issue 13] The Cobras in service with the Spanish Navy flew with the 4th Escuadrilla of the FLOAN (Flotilla de Aeronaves) of the Spanish Navy until the dissolution of the unit consumed the 19th of October 1984. The Cobras flew until 1987, out of active service. The unit was prematurely disbanded by the high accidental rate of the Cobras (the 50% crashed).
[Issue 14] The Trigat missile. The Spanish Army discarded the Trigat as weapon to be fitted on the Tiger HAD attack helicopters, last June, with the sign of the contract with Rafael for the Spike ER. Also the past December was signed another 416 Million deal (2600 missiles and 260 launch post) with Rafael for the Spike LR system to replace the Milan 3 ATGMs in service with the Spanish Army land units.
[Issue 17] I think that this error was introduced to simplify the weaponry on the Spanish OOB and save one slot on the weapons list. If that is the real reason thats OK, but I refer to verify if this is the case or if the error was an involuntary action.
If any clarification, proof or visual reference over any point is required, please ask.
