playing the unfished nations
This is a good starting point for people who want to look at modding. Its also not a bad cahllenge for veteran players.
Put this into your mods directiory, turn it on in the "Game Tools", then start an early game.
Code:
#modname "fledgling nation"
#icon "../guihead.tga"
#selectnation 79
#era 1
#name "Home"
#epithet "fledgling nation"
#end
It adds the empty nation #79 to the early era group. Its very bare. A challenge to play as it is, or a great motivator for filling it in the way you think it should be done.
Some slots are more complete than others. At the time of this patch (3.06) you might look at
13 Tir na n'Og - Land of the Tuatha
14 Fomoria -
20 Gath - Time of Nefilim
45 Gath - Anakim
65 Gath - xxx
69
71
72
73
74
75
76
77
78
79
You could also obviously move nations, such as putting all of the Ulm into one era to play them against each other. But you might have to rename them to early ulm, mid ulm, late ulm or something like that since some nations name-clash when running together.

Re: playing the unfished nations
When I try to play with the later two Gath nations I get the swedish chef - and "Kingdom not Available".
Tir, Gath and the Fomorians (who I assume will be evil Irish, but might just be humans) all start with a Friar, but have no recruitable units to look at (although I can identify several that look likely in the larger unit list.)

Good shot Sombre.
Right in the heart. Killed the patient.

You should post it to the "Kristoffer's encouragement thread" where it will have more effect.

The game has a strange way of handling clashes. Such as if you want to refer to Arcoscephale or Gath. For AIs it will ignore clashes and just pick one (not sure if its the first one or the last one). For human players you willg to that error. So it will let you play early Gath 1 in era 1. But to play mid Gath and late Gath you would need to rename them. Such as..
Code:
#selectnation 20
#name "early Gath"
#era 1
#end
#selectnation 45
#name "mid Gath"
#era 1
#end
#selectnation 65
#name "late Gath"
#era 1
#end
Which is what Im doing now for every nation from 0 to 79 *sigh*
And then I will duplicate it into two other mods for making everyone play era 2 games, and era 3 games.
I wish we had a unique flags set that went up covered everyone.
