Does Eater of the Gods ignore bodyguards?
My sage pretender, caster of all my global enchantments, possessor of several unique artifacts and other expensive items, was attacked and killed by "Eater of the Gods". He was in his home province, with Air Dome up to protect against spells, with 35 province defense, with some claymen as a bodyguard, and about 40 other mages and hundreds of units.
He fought alone. Cast invulnerability and was promptly slain in one hit.
I am !almost! positive he had a claymen bodyguard. No way for me to find out now....
What is "Eater of teh Gods", where do you get one, summon it, create it, etc. And does it ignore bodyguards?
Thanks!

Eater of Gods! Umor! It's a Doom Horror that comes to Horror Marked pretender gods. Horror Marks can come from the spell of same name or some items.

Re: Does Eater of the Gods ignore bodyguards?
Doom Horror attacks are currently assassinations. However, this reminds me of something... Horrors DO ignore bodyguards. On assassinations, in the first turn bogyguards move forward. On the Horror's turn, it chooses a target for its attack, and Horror Marked beings are more likely to be affected... so the Horror attacks the marked commander. Because the commander dies in one hit, and the normal units (at best) retreat from assassination, everybody dies.

Any pretender with a horror mark can be targeted by this horror. Even with 5 claymen I'm not sure your sage would have survived. If you create a pretender which has less than 20 hitpoints and it's not undead I recommend having the pretender cast twiceborn on himself. With the twiceborn he will return as a wight mage which has stronger stats than the vast majority of pretenders with low hit points. The other bonus is your pretender won't lose one to all his magic paths... just make sure to keep anyone with twiceborn within your domain.
Spells on the battlefield and give you a horror mark and last I recall a non battlefield spell called Baleful Star(astral spell) can give horror marks to units within a province. Also I've heard of a magic site which can give horror marks... so maybe your pretender picked it up while searching for sites.
Here are two things which can be done to increase surviving these new nasty horrors. First is wearing the wraith crown which will help surround its owner with undead at the start of battle. Second is giving your pretender lots of blood slaves which will also surround its owner. This might allow the pretender enough battle turns to cast some deadly spell(s) at the horror.

Re: Does Eater of the Gods ignore bodyguards?
Not sure if it still works in Dom-3....
But in 1 and 2, it's the defender that goes first. Always. If you have a bit of astral on your pretender, keep several Astral gems on him at all times, and script him to cast Returning, he'll never go down in battle. Sure, he'll never add anything to a battle.....

Re: Does Eater of the Gods ignore bodyguards?
Thanks everyone. My pretender was horror marked early in the game by a baleful star before I put up a Dome of Air. Marked, Cursed, Afflicted.... The Dome of Air stopped that stuff from happening.
I should have had Twiceborn on him, and some sort of scripted attack. I have learned that lesson.

Re: Does Eater of the Gods ignore bodyguards?
sigh, I'd like to say, even if you survive one horror attack (and good luck) they'll just be right back =[.. the returning thing would probably work, but you can never use him for battle again.
Had an immortal ktonian oracle pretender... 200 + hp and such... died in two rounds... was immortal so would come back, but about 5/6 turns I would get attacked (and kill) by horrors. I never saw a normal horror, I immediately was attacked by eater of the gods then all of his friends.
there's a whole thread about this sort of horror mark sadness... something is done about it in the patch, guess I'll have to see how that is.
