Custom Component Group
Hi all,
I am currently playing with the components definition files and I would like to use the 'custom group' feature, as it seems to be able to do what I want.
On the Components.txt file there is this description:
"Custom Group:
A number which allows the creation of custom Groups of components. This number is referenced by the Ship Sizes when they use the Abilities "Do Not Allow Components of Custom Group" and "Only Allow Components of Custom Group"."
However, when trying to use these "Do Not Allow Components of Custom Group" or "Only Allow Components of Custom Group" in the VehiculeSize.txt, I cannot make it work properly.
Does anyone have a hint about how to use there custom group, for example to make a compnent usable only by one type of ship?
Thanks

Re: Custom Component Group
That's a "feature" that many of the modders tried to use early on. To my knowledge, it's never worked. Maybe MM can fix it in the next patch...

Re: Custom Component Group
Sorry for hauling up this old topic, but I saw Planetary Gravity Plating has custom group 1, and Hyper Density Cables has custom group 2.
I read custom Groups have no use, but why do these 2 components have abberrant values?

Re: Custom Component Group
Custom Groups do work, but only in that specific case. (I think).
"Create Constructed Planet
Value1 = The Special Ability ID in PlanetSize.txt to construct.
Value2 =
Constructed Planet Requirements
Value1 = The custom group of the component needed to be present.
Value2 = The kT of component required to be present."

So it's merely an aid to help the AI figure out how to do stuff?
Any possible uses for it?

Re: Custom Component Group
Huh? No, in that case it's used to define what counts as "building materials" for sphere and ring worlds. You have to have a specific amount of each custom group present along with the generator to make the world; otherwise no-go.

Re: Custom Component Group
any one ever thought of making something that insn't quite a sphere or a ring world? like a step above a planet? It owuld also be nice to be able to have more than one sun created per system.

Re: Custom Component Group
Also, adding to my previous thought, you could have other created things (maybe sphere and ring are it though) created from other types of components, like from 'Temporal Bonding Plates' or 'Organic Satalite Envelopes' that would create other stellar constructions in different ways than the normal player.
