Default Unit classes details??

Is there any way to get a more detailed description or characteristics.

I know they a basic clone but, I would like to know the differences in an APC, APC (Wheeled), APC GUN, APC MRV, Armoured Car.

Also, differences in types of infantry. Are they just name changes with the same characteristic? (Like difference in light, medium, heavy, smg, etc.)

I don't know how much you can explain further but, it would be helpful since we don't know the code for each if we could get more information on the classes.

Any more info would help clear my interest.

Thanks for the deep info, I know they are in the game guide. I was hoping that someone could give more info on them.

Are they the same code with different name?

GUN APC (Track) -- Clone of 125, default move class is Tracked
APC (Track)-- Protects carried troops
Heavy APC --- APC Clone, protects passengers.
Light APC --- APC Clone, protects passengers.
Improvised APC --- APC clone, protects passengers.

Except for the word clone and protects passengers what is the difference??

Is the Gun APC coded to have a certain weapon size or turret opposed to a normal APC?
Is light APC the same as APC (wheeled) or is light weaker?
Is heavy APC coded to be tougher or slower?

AM I asking for too much info or not seeing the obvious.

Some of my reasoning is I consider a HMMWV a medium truck or armored car not an improvised APC.
A scout vehicle is considered in the game a car, does that mean if I apply it to a Stryker to make a scout variant that is is considered a jeep not an armored vehicle?

One more is a Bradley M2 is considered a APC GUN a M3 Bradley is considered a light APC, why the difference?
I would think they are both Gun APC or maybe a heavy APC.

I am just curious if I change the classes if I will be getting results not equal to the vehicle?

The point of having clones of classes by other names is to allow OOB designers to properly create formations and limit the availability of certain units.

Take for instance my Vietnam specific OOBs, in which I had created a formation to represent the "Seawolves" of HAL-3, assigned to the Mobile Riverine Force in the Mekong Delta region. In the end I used the COIN Armed Helo which is essentially an attack helo clone, for the units to be selected in this formation.

Why? While I could've just used the formation to give a +10 to morale and experience of attack helicopters this would have been historically inaccurate. This would have meant that in purchasing a flight of "Seawolves" I could've selected UH-1Es, only flown by the USMC, and never used by the Seawolves. By classifying the UH-1Bs, Cs, and Ms as "COIN Armed Helo" units, this allowed me to have two different formations of attack helicopters, and allow it to be historically accurate.

The same is true of what I had to do to create Transport Co gun trucks. If I had classed them as Improvised APCs, which they are really, the formations I created could possibly have been made up of M577s or Jeeps, and not nessecarily my gun trucks. The M577 would not be accurate in any way shape or form, and editing the jeeps to be accurate would make them inaccurate as Command Vehicles, which is where the unit class is used. "Gun APC (Wheeled)" was free for the nessecary time period, and was therefore was the obvious choice.

Thanks thatguy96,

That offers me a better explanation. I was just trying to find out if there was any hard coding for the classes.

For example: classing a HMMWV as a Heavy APC which would make it have the characteristics of a Bradley. I know there is some coding to these things as in wheeled or tracked direct or indirect fire, smoke etc...

Just didn't know how specific the coding got.

I have tried to do the same as you with my new USA OOB. Mainly with the new Stryker Family.

M1126 MG = light APC
M1126 GL = light support APC
This is necessary to put both in a platoon.
M1128 MGS = light tank, light airborne tank, light cavalry tank.
This is for different formations.

I need another scout vehicle class for a support vehicle to separate the MG version and GL version but...

Anyway, thanks for you input it helps...

I noticed an inconsistancy in the game manual and MOBHack.

The manual states this:
UnitClass 52 =Wheeled SP-AT

In MOBHack class 52 is Wheeled SP-ATGM.

The manual states it is a RCL AT class, In the game it is given to M966 TOW HMMWV. (Unit 029)

Class 19 is a basic SP ATGM.

Then change the name to wheeled SP_AT in the mobhack ini file. Its a minor bug.

The game always is "right" when comparing a utility to it.

On the to-do to fix the string in the mobhack INI.
