So, I reinstalled SE4, and patched up to 1.49.
I load up my savedgame, play a few turns, and bam, action hits.
I am 30% done building a defense station on one of the two chokepoint wormholes, with a little fleet to protect 'em. BC,CR, 2xLCs, and a capture ES. The player on that side had just moved the DN and BB I sold him a few turns earlier out of my territory.
He declares war, and attacks my construction project with those two ships and a pair of his own CRs.
Polaron Beam I's skip my shields, but do relatively little damage. (I was saving money and buildtime by using standard shields)
I manage to capture (and have destroyed) the lead CR, and to cripple the second, but the sheer firepower of the DN and BB are overwhelming, and my forces are wiped out.
I react by ordering the construction of vast numbers of my best firepower per build turns ships. (the LCs) Orbital factories are built (total of 14), and they pump out 60 LCs. No further incursions are made.
Then, comes the Intel. My 100,000 stored counter-points have been drained away during the military buildup, and I start absorbing 2 or 3 successful ops per turn.
Pour on the research->intel conVersions, and they are whittled down to one every now and then. I've lost two planets to PPP or food contamination; one was the spaceport for a major system!
Now, after a decade of defending, I am 3 turns from BattleMoon Tech! Time to kick *** and chew bubble gum, and I haven't researched gum yet
.
The only problem will be waiting three or four years for each BattleMoon to be completed.
Yep. With my tech, and using the full capabilities of Emergency build and Retroseries methods, I can get an empty battlemoon hull in just 40 turns!
And, at my current best SpaceYard, I get 24 repair per turn, so it'll take an additional one-to-two years to fill it with components. And one more year to install the Ablative Armor.
So, I'm gonna have to build a slew of construction stations just to finish the BattleMoon within 5 years.
And the BattleMoon alone will cost on the order of $1,000,000 to complete.
