HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
I think this last weekend marks the 230th anniversary of existence of the United States Marine Corps....URRAH!
Congratulations to all Marines, no such thing as an ex-Marine in these parts.
Anyway, my happiest wishes to all Marines everywhere...The Proud and the Few
Or as Randy Casebier says, "The Point of the Spear!"

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
I'll be sure to pass on your best wishes to my dad.
As you say there is no such thing as an ex-marine.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
SEMPER FIDELIS, Mighty Wild Bill! You bring pride to those who honor the valor of the United States Marine Corps. A man who can navigate between I-75&Ashford-Dunwoody at 7:47AM on I-285 is honorable, as well, Wild Bill.
PS: Please have a look here for maps for your glorious scenarios.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
I see there's a new movie coming soon named "Jarhead", which is on my 'must see' list. Out of curiosity, where does the term "jarhead" come from?

That one I don't know. I'll ask some Marine buddies.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
"Jarhead. n. Slang. A US Marine. Also refers to a marine's high and tight hair cut."
"a slang term for marines (particularly new recruits, as their shaved heads look like jars or jugs with the ears as handles)"

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
I want to wish a hearty URRRAH to all present and former Marines out there! WBill thanks for the birthday wish and starting this post. You should be promoted to "Honorary Gunnery Sergeant"!
Marine Corps Trivia-
1)What is the braided design on the top of a Marine officer's cover called?
2)What is the red stripe on the Dress Blue Trousers called, and what does it signify?
3)Why are Marines called Leathernecks?
Sorry I don't have a prize for the winner. Maybe a ten week tour of Parris Island!

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY - SEMPER FI!
Mighty Randy! The term 'leatherneck' dates back to the Revolutionary War! It was in reference to the leather neck- guard worn by the early Marines, which would, in theory, protect the powerful warriors from nasty sabers while boarding enemy ships. The red stripe reflects the blood of those lost during the Mexican-American War! Hence its honorable name 'The Blood-Stripe'! The Marines!!!
