Default Wanted: Ability to save in simutaneous games

I'm running an empire in a PBW game with 184 planets, 3483 units, 347 ships (including 30+ transports/utility/SM ships that need new and individual orders every turn) plus 96 space yard stations. It is usual to take more than an hour to give all the necessary orders to the ships, check every build queues, check all the log items, deal with the Messages etc... I've got a lot to do in real life and it is getting harder and harder to set aside a complete 1.5 hour block of time for the game. I'm sure that any of you who runs a large empire would agree that the ability to save the game in simutaneous-turn games can be very helpful, in fact I don't understand why the function is disabled in the first place!

yep, but now imagine this same situation with a flakey computer that likes to re-boot itself at odd moments without any notice whatsoever.....

"hmmm...ok....Last ship order....finally, now to get some sleep...let me hit turn end and....WHAT!! NO!! ARRGGHHH!!! DAMN MACHINE"
<punts computer through wall and into kitchen> "Last time I buy Packard Bell!!!"
<grumble><mutter><snort>...

Or when you have just spent an hour of the hour and a half when your system just flat locks up. I'm in the same game as CW and I had one evening where I had to do the same turn three times, and the third time I just didn't issue all of my orders because I was too tired of going through everything.

I agree, Simultaneous mode games should allow you to save an uncompleted turn. It makes sense to not allow this in non-Simultaneous games as you could save just before a battle and redo you turn if a battle did not turn out as you had planned.

I agree that simultaneous mode games should have the ability to save games. Has anyone raised this with Aaron or we just dreaming?

There are only two situations that you would play in turn based mode:

1) You are playing by yourself - in which case I don't mind cheating myself at all! "False" sense of satisfaction you know...

2) Hot sit games - if you redo your battles prepare for some physical injuries if you let the other guy know! Anyhow there's nothing to stop you reloading the whole turn even if you are only allowed to save between turns.
