New books that are out
I just finished reading 'A Mankind Witch' over on Webscriptions. It's a good adventure novel with an evil witch, villianous plots, deposed princesses, various strange creatures, and an interesting collection of heroes. No new ground here, but it's all well done. Don't ask me where the title comes from; although it does refer to the book, I have no clue how they got that particular arrangement of words.
Also out, although not on Baen's front page, is C.J.Cherryh's 'The Paladin', with a female hero who remains just as outstanding as the first time I read it. (Although I havn't got all the way through the re-read, yet)
Unlike so many other writers, Cherryh doesn't cut her hero any breaks, like an anachronistic society or unrealistic physical strength. Taizu makes it on guts, wits and skill and in the process moves into that special catagory of heroes. I don't know what it's called, but I do know one when I see one.
As an interesting note, nearly the whole story is told from the point of view of her male mentor (who is only enlightened by the standards of his society) but the focus almost never even shifts from Taizu. Not an easy novel to read, but one that sticks with you.

Re: New books that are out
That book sounds interesting, i would read that book but somehow i am reading two books right now. If you guys are looking for great fantacies you can read the ice and fire series which starts with a game of thrones. Another great series is Memory, Sorrow and Thorn....yes i bet you did read it but if not it is great.
THe book while may take a while to get into since the begining introduces a dozen or so characters and a chapter is in first person but in each chapter it changes. I mean it is a great book highly recommended and it is in many langauges.
The Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn starts with the dragonbone chair. It is about a boy named seomen who has to run from a castle and survive, there is much much more but do not wish to spoil it.
These two series are great and are highly recommended by me. If you read any of them and do or do not like them tell me.

Re: New books that are out
Im at this moment reading throgh the Pip & Flinx series from Alan Dean Foster.... Im up to the book "The Howling Stones" that i believe is the 8th (chronologically) in the series...
So far it was fun, i particularly liked the books "For the Love of Mother-Not" and "Orphan Star", and the most boring was the "BloodHype" book...
Beside the main protagonists, the characters i like most are the Thranx Trezesuzex (if i spelled it right it was pure luck) and the Human Bran Tse-Mallory...
What good sci-fi authors you would recommend? I like long series of books, like the Honor Harrington series, Cherryh Allaince-Union, David Weber Starfire series, etc..

Re: New books that are out
Well, Cherryh does one based on humans somewhat accidently ending up on an alien world. Among other things, the aliens also have an alien mentality - These are not humans in a suit.

Then there's one by Julie E. Czerneda which is always fun:

Re: New books that are out
Can you tell I am an "Alan Dean Foster" Fan?
Another good and long series are books by Larry Niven. Ringworld and the like. Almost all of his books fit into this universe. Even the Man/Kzinti Wars series of short stories by mostly other authors.
Truzenzuzex. Tru of the family Zen of the clan Zu and the hive Zex. (That is scary that I knew it from memory) I wonder who has the movie rights to these books? Computer characters are starting to get good enough to do this.

Re: New books that are out
I just finished reading the World War II: balance books. Very good. Can't wait to read the Colonization books when I get the chance to collect them all. Currently I'm reading the Star Wars novel The Cestus Deception. I know it's not exactly new, but I'm reading it now. I also have the SW: Jedi Trial and the SW3 nonvelization books to read. Need to get SW: Labyrinth of Evil, but I haven't seen it around the stores recently. May have to order it from the Sci-Fi book club, but even with their sales, that shiping & handling kills you.

Re: New books that are out
Resurrecting this thread...
I would recommend "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" by Susanna Clarke. It came out last year and is now in paperback (trade) size.
It made a lot of folks' booklists for good reason. I am almost done with it, but would heartily recommend it to any one who likes fantasy books.
