Default How do i make the mods work?

I got quite a few mods, but I dont think they are working. I got the Japanese mod, placed it into the mod folder, but it does not appear as an army/race selection
What do i do?

Go into the Preferences screen, then Mod Preferences, and enable the mod(s) you wish to use. Then proceed to create a game, and start playing; the game will automatically handle the mods once the game has been created (enabling/disabling them as needed).

Also, mods usually have a banner. It is a picture with mod's name, and can be found from the upper-right corner of Dominions main menu (Create pretender/game, play game...) if a mod is selected.

Thanks guys I got it!
Now I can fiddle around as much as I can heheeh
Now does anyone know where I can get a step by step guide on modding? For this game anyway it would make life easier! I know computers, but not the intricacies of modding
I got the mod guideline, but...I am still kinda of lost
Anyway please feel free to drop me a line

There might be a modding FAQ or walkthrough on one of the fan sites.

However I'd suggest simply looking at the files for existing mods in a text editor, starting with small ones so you know in advance what you're looking at.

i have been playing with 2.02 cause i wasn't doing the MP thing but now I'm trying to patch and 2.16 doesn't make it moddable
I need patch 2.05- I think I need them all is there one comprehensive patch? and 2.16 is not comprehensive cause it only changes docs.html and army9.trs... maybe that is nto my problem i have installed in a directory of my choosing (non-default), but i don't think thats even likely. Maybe someone has the patches on their comp and could post an attachment... thanks

I always tought all patches would work from clean install... And also, copying/renaming the executable allows running different versions of the game in at least some cases.

You really should patch, however. If nothing else, the battle commands of 'n' and 'f', and the new themes added (Arcoscephale Golden Era, Ulm Black Forest, Abysia Blood of Humans?, others?) make it well worth it.

The 2.16 patch said it ran & updated just fine onto a clean install, as I just put Dom2 onto my new machine this afternoon.

well, thx for the help i must have something wrong here, when i go to preferences there is only an audio and video preferences option and no mod preferences... when you did your clean install, did you put it in the default directory? mine is a non-default directory is it possible it patching the wrong directory i know i get a duplicate dominions II.exe file in the mods folder whenever i patch... i dunno maybe i need reinstall it from scratch...

I've had no problem updating to 2.16 from a vanilla install. What you should do is reinstall from scratch and then apply the patch, but you could also try to just reapply the patch and see what happens. The patch does seek out the actual install directory, even if it's nonstandard, and I've never had a problem with that.
