Hmmm, well nothing has panned out so far in my chemical hunting quest. So I figured I'd bump this back up to the top, and see if anyone has any other companies they could recommend to supply small amounts of certain chemicals to a private citizen in Canada? Again, help would be very much appreciated!

Canadian chemical regulations suck. Anything possibly or remotely related to pyrotechnics is restricted, and usually unavailable for sale. Sometimes laws just suck.

Go out of town to some old farm estate auctions. They have large piles of rust there Look for old burn barrels and steel equipment. If they are old enough, you can scrape it off with a butter knife. Tell the people you are just trying to see how much metal is left. It may be good for about a pound. If you are talking large amounts it would not work.

Renegade are you thinking about making an explosive? If so I must caution you that explosive can lead to blindness and or missing limbs. I stronly suggest that you abandon your chemical quest and move onto a more future securing hobby like polar bear wrestling or free fall sky diving.

Yes, Hugo Weaving is Australian, just like Sam Neil...no wait he's actually a Kiwi by way of Ireland, or Russell Crowe...no wait he's a Kiwi too. I've got it Hugo Weaving is as Australian as Mel Gibson...who actually moved here when he was 12. Well I think Mr Weaving is Australian unlike half the actors in Australia.

Nah AT, I'm just trying to build thermite, a mixture of iron oxide (rust) and aluminum. It is used in commercial welding mostly. However, it's also really neat, it'll burn through solid steel. I just wanted to try it out, but unfortunately it seems it's not going to work. The magnesium ribbon needed to set it off it Anot available or B Way way too expensive. I'm not gonna spend $90 on 25 grams of the stuff, even though it would last forever. I just don't have that kind of cash lying around.

So no, explosives aren't what I'm looking to make, and it seems like I won't be making anything at all. At least not for a long while.

Thermite, in my experience at least, is a big disappointment. The reaction is unimpressive and you can never get together decent quantities of the ingredients in the correct ratio to get a good reaction. So your not missing alot.

I feel your pain Renegade Never made Thermite before but observing it burn through solid steel would be impressive.

Hell, everything is regulated/restricted these days. And those that aren't are modified.

Random Piece of trivia. I'm sure most chemistry students will know the effects of the age-old "weedkiller and sugar" explosive. So now even weedkiller is actually laced with "flame retardents" to stop such activities.

Hey RD, good to see you around here! Haven't seen you in a bit.

Ah, I'll just stick with the old fertilizer and diesel explosive. Of course, you have to find the right fertilizer for that to work...

And nope, I don't like fire or explosions or anything like that one tiny little bit

The problem is never the explosive, its the dets. The difference between a high and a low explosive in fact.

Still nothing wrong with good old ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil), especially if you chuck in some aluminium or plastic ball bearings to sensitise it.

Between looking for work, doing charity work and a lot of other busy stuff I really haven't had much time I haven't even played a game of SEIV in months Patiently awaiting SEV though. Leaving college was the best thing I ever did though

As for your obvious "dislike" of explosives I pray you never meet my friend Ford. (Named after HGTTG) She's the only human I know that could possibly blow up earth (And not for putting a hyperspace bypass in it's place either.) Like the MacGyver of Wanton Destruction.
