Default Starfury needs civilians!

I still replay Starfury occasionally. I finally got around to trying the Galactica mod, for example. But the one thing that the original game and all the mods seem to lack is a decent variety of civilian ships! Why are all races' freighters exactly the same? If they can design original warships, surely they can design original freighters? For that matter, even within societies that are not 'centralized' and authoritatarian there should be many different freighters. Creaky old rust buckets. Huge, sleek super freighters. Distinctive 'corporate logo' freighters. (I'd love to see a knock-off of the UPS truck as a freighter. Call it 'Space Parcel Service'? ) And the pirates should be a hodge-podge of converted freighters and older warships, not all the same model! Is someone working on any interesting civilian ships to provide a little color and background?

Yeah, this is a good point. Variety never hurts... but it makes for more work.

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

I've worked on that in fits and starts, but I -suck- at texture so I've not put too much work into it.

Here's a screenshot of one frieghter I was working on..this is the "empty" configuration. You can't see it from here, but those big protusions on the sides have nothing in them. The idea being that it can carry up to 8 strap on cargo pods, and the outer ring acts as armor/helps keeps the pods in place.

Hi all,

Quite OK, if only for players' pleasure's sake ^-^ Baron Munchausen's description of the freither world seems to me an ideal. Just, how about convoys on dangerous areas ? Could this be modded into Starfury ? Having full convoys of 2-10 civilian ships travelling and having to be protected from pirates by mercs compagnies ?

It is entirely possible to make civilian convoys, yes. You just organize them as a fleet.
