Default Nebulae question

Looked in the FAQ, but I didn't see this question addressed. I am pretty sure the answer is no, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask: do system-wide obscuring nebulae (like the red type, etc...) ever hide asteroids or other stuff? I am in a game where I am contemplating researching up to nebula sucking tech, but I don't see much use in doing that unless I get some asteroids out of it.

Thanks,

Alarik

On a random generated map you will never have planets or asteroid objects in a system with a system-wide nebulae. They can be placed in a custom made map though. And if you blow up a star into a nebulae during the game the planets will be blown into asteroids and they will remain.

If you are looking for a reason to research the tech though, in the stock game the red nebulae cannot be penetrated by any sensors. So even if there are no asteroids, at least you can deny your enemies a place to hide.

Removing nebulaes will also allow you to build a star in the system, which can then be used to:

- Lay a nice Stellar Manipulation trap for the unwary (if you can remove the nebulae and create the star on the same turn, and make sure the enemy fleet will be in the middle of the system when the turn ends)
- Build Ringworlds everywhere! Either you have imperial ego, or you don't. It would have the slight advantage of making you safe from these Star Destroyers in this system as well.
- If you are playing an odd mod, it would also allow you to generate supplies with the Solar Panel abilities. I cannot think of any mod where there would be any point in doing that though.
