OT: Some assistance please :)
Ok, can anyone tell me what I need to type into "run" (in the start menu) to get to where I can forcefully prevent certain programs from running on startup? I knew it at one time, but just can't remember it right now....
I hope I explained what I mean correctly, and didn't just succeed in confusing everybody

"msconfig" works on XP and probably other Versions of windohs. From there, you can select what gets run on startup.

Ah Thank you! That's the one I was trying (and couldn't) think of! Thank you so so much!
Everyone else, thanks for the suggestions, but this was exactly what I was looking for

You can google each to see what you need and don't need.

It works fine on win2k. It is just not available by default. You can download it from the web and it will work perfectly.

Re: OT: Some assistance please :)
For those who care: In Windows 98/98Se/ME type in the Run path "system information" to get to the ginormous "Help and Support" area > Click the Tools drop-down menu and click "System Configuration Utility". This gives you the set of tabs that was MSConfig in Win95.
So far in ME this is the only way I know to get there. (Well, it's under Start/Program Files/Accessories/System Tools also...)

Re: OT: Some assistance please :)
In Win 98/ME the system information utility (MSINFO32.EXE) has menu link (under tools) to a system config utility. One panel in this lets you choose which programs run on startup.
