Re: Recent WinXP crash problem -- solutions?
I dont seem to have any problems. Can you post (or private message me if you want) your settings? What screen mode are you in? Are you running it with no switches? (full screen, fades, music, etc)

Re: Recent WinXP crash problem -- solutions?
I have experienced certain slow down with Dom 2 duing game play after my recent updates. However, mine seemed to be sound related (some of my updates were for sound card), and after I switched the Sound System setting from Default to Direct Sound, it functioned perfectly... Probably will not apply to you, but worth a try.
Also, some people have reported that Hotfix Q811493 causes snail crawling on their XP systems. This is a general slow down, and not Dom 2 or gaming specific. However, not everyone has this problem when updated.
So check if you have this patch, and perhaps try uninstalling it. This patch prevents hackers from raising his/her privilege level. But to do that in the first place, they need physical access, like intranet or a terminal station. So most home Users are safe anyway.
Just some thoughts...

Recent WinXP crash problem -- solutions?
As a result of the Sasser worm that's been sweeping the nation, I swung by MS's website Last night to install a new service pack and some new IE patch-ups. I'm not sure what happened, but ever since, I've run into an interesting difficulty. Every time I quit out of Dominions, my computer freezes up on the "credits" display. I basically get to the point where: "Dominions II: The Ascension Wars" has scrolled up onto my screen and then *poof*, it's an all-stop.
Has anyone else upgraded and had this problem? Anyone else had this problem on XP at all? Any idea what might be causing it?

Can you uninstall that patch to see if it works then? Just to rule that out, I would try uninstalling.

Re: Recent WinXP crash problem -- solutions?
I likely will tonight, once I've returned home from taking a final. I'm reluctant to but I figure it should be safe if I avoid any Online contact while going through the system restore.
Oddly enough, one of the items patched was a "Games freeze during intro movie" complaint. Hm. Now they just freeze during the exit movie. I'm actually thinking this part's the root of the problem. I guess that's -one- way to fix it.
