Default Void Gate Question

Ive been playing alot as R'yleh lately and I think they're good fun excpet for one thing: how to properly use the void gate. When Im lucky I really love it. The sacred creatures, even the kinda sucky ones, can help out a lot. My problem is protecting the starspawn that enter the site. Ive tried assigning starspawn body guards, but they refuse to use mind bLast and so will get annihilated by most anything that can move and so if I am attacked by anything more than a lone otherness I will lose all of them. In my current game Ive already lost Cthgul and a generic starspawn priest (who had gotten to void summoning 10 before he was killed) and any help would be apprciated.

(By the way, I did use the forum search and the only thing I could find was get the hero to use ritual of returning which dosent work in the home province.)

Ritual of Returning will work in the home province: You'll just teleport out of the fight, and go, well, nowhere, because your return spot is the same. That's what makes Ritual of Returning so helpful.

You probably shouldn't have risked Cthugul getting killed until you could put up ritual of returning: Script him also to cast the regular "Returning", and hand him a few astrals, to save him the ritual. The ritual just keeps him alive in case he goes off to the funny farm at the same time.

Most of the Void creatures that attack your starspawn are "Mindless" and so MindbLast is completely ineffective against them. (Which I believe is why your body gaurds refused to use MindbLast).

Use the move-0 void critters that you occasionally get as bodyguards. They are tough, and you have nothing else to use them for.

And remember to either cast return or use ritual of returning - or both.

While that's true, that's not the reason they won't use MindbLast. Bodyguards never use any ranged attacks they might have, including magical ones like MindbLast. This makes putting illithids on bodyguard duty very counterproductive. Use Crab Hybrids until you get decent void summons.
