Default Too much money ?

I finally started playing the release Version of SF and I find it MUCH better than the demo!

I'm still playing the first scenario and find it involving and balanced.

One thing that still sucks is that you can pile up a fair amount of money just destroying enemy ships and selling their cargo.
There is too much money available and no reason to have so much!!

The game is still fun enough, but after completing the three scenarios for sure I'll try modding (BTW: I'm a software developer so modding is rather easy for me).

I'd like to hear an opinion from some of the most dedicated modders here (Phenix-D, Ed Kolis, Suicide Junkie ?)

This is what I'm asking:

1) Can we add Fuel to ships ? (so u spend money to refuel every time you go to a dock)

2) Could we add a docking TAX on planets and stations ? (this way it would be much more expensive to dock many times during a battle to fix the ship)

3) Could we add a Toll of some kind to have Pirates leave you alone if you transfer credits on their accounts ? (this could sometimes save your life if not your purse)

4) Could we add Corruption or Fines ? (you pay an amount of credits to TCN to redeem your original legal status or to have them let you pass)

I know this mods are not easy, not even to figure out, and I just like you to think about it and let me know in a week or two...

1) No.

2) Well, you could add a set fee to use a specific site. e.g. every entry to the space dock costs 10 credits.

3) maybe through events. can't think of how to tell the pirates yes or no though. what you could do is have a "free passage" item. Buy it and carry it, and the pirates leave you alone. Could also use the status game date event to change the item every so often- so you need to buy another item to pay your "protection money"

4) Fines yes, as a varient on the above idea. Corruption would be harder.

1) Perhaps.
Take the reactors out, and replace them with SE4 style Supply storage bays. Lots and lots of storage per component.
Very slow supply generation solar panels could be added if you like.

Then, at spacedock you pay to refill the fuel tanks with the repair button, or purchase jerry cans to put in cargo as emergency energy.

That isn't really fuel though, unless the only thing that burns fuel on your ship is the weapons.

Speaking of, if you want to more directly lower the amount of money available, you can go into Main_Stores.txt and drop the "sell price" for each of the sites.

Don't your engines use energy too?

Is it possible to use the game date event to have the effect of an item expire after some time ?

I was thinking to add a speed slowing effect of 100% to engines, then I would create a new stock item (a fuel tank) that counteracts this effects for some time, the more big the fuel tank the more time you are immune to speed slowing.

Then I could add special engines like the "Solar Sail" which could be used without fuel (no bad speed slowing).

Well, that's not the point.
I don't mind earning a lot of money throught combat, but is much more fun if I really have need of it or can use it to do things.
It's a game after all, so IMHO doing more things adds new tactics and possibilities and fun to the game.

Thank you all for the replies.

No. As for making an item expire, you can only do that through events, and only effecting other events, not the items inherent properties.
