Default Newbie guide for this game?

I tried the demo for SE4, I went thru the tutorial to get a basic understanding of the gameplay. I'm having problems with knowing what to do/build at the start of the game. I have played MOO and MOO 2, but this game seems alot harder to start. Any Newbie SE4 guides out there anywhere? Any hints or tips?

First off:
Welcome DarkStar
to the SEIV universe

This is for an oxg/rock race:
First build 2-3 colonization ships. Colonize
a couple of planets in your system. Pick the ones that have a green star first. On planets that have 6 or more fac spots, build in this order, Space yard, resuppy depot, mineral, research, then either organic and/or rad. then a mineral depot, then fill the rest with
reaserch/mineral (swap back and forth until full)
On anything below 6, you have to build witch ever resource has the highest persent rate. (i.e moons)
Build an escort and send it to the next system. (I would only look at one new system at a time until I have a couple of the planets done. Don't over expand early in the game.) Build some defenses, either on your planets or some ships. I prefer ships myself. With a few sat's on my WP's.

Remember in every system, you must have a space port to gain from that system. Don't worry about remote mining unless you just have a large number of fields around you.

Since you are only using the demo, You won't get to use a lot of the items with my method.

I am sure others have ways that they will post. Just pick diffent ones and try different ways of playing. (my first few rounds, I ran out of resources and could not maintain a fleet. I quickly learned that my race used alot of minerals early in the game and did not use any organics or rads until later.)

There is a guide that was put together by one of the players, It is posted the the mod section of the site. It has a number of ideas from a number of players on starting a game. It is call strat guide.
You may want to down load it and check it out.

See this post: Strategy Guide in the Archive

P.s
My suggestion is to buy the game, it is great and you can use all the custom stuff we came up with also plus most everyone on this site will glading 'attempt' to answer all your questions.

Thanks for the info Dracus. I do plan on buying the game I just want to check out the demo and see if I like it. With only 100 turns I know I won't get too far with it. How does SE4 compare to MOO and MOO 2? Thanks again for the help.

I lose interest in games real quick so I really can't answer that. I can say that the appeal to this game is that I can change up files quickly to add different flare to the game. I also like the support that MM provides and the group of players this game as drawn. With that, I can also say that this game has held my attention longer then any of the others.

SE4 is a much deeper game than MOO2. It is the best game I have played in years. You will not be disappointed.

The best part of the game is that it's constantly being upgraded. I think it has been patched 4 times already with more on the way. And it will probably have en expansion pack with ideas from this forum in it. That's why I love it. Because it never gets old
