Default Tactics: Question

Many of the missions require you to take on two or three ships. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to separate them so you can take them on one at a time?

It's not easy to do, but if you get fast engines (better than 600) it sure helps. Weaving through an asteroid field does too.

Try to get on the rear part of the enemy ship and bLast there, the ship has the least weapons there.

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

Also, you're most likely to damage the engines from there. If you are trying to break up a group, damaging the engines on one ship and then running will spread them out nicely.

You can also use an enemy ship to shield yourself from his friends. The AI has no qualms about friendly fire. That being said, it'd be nice if the throttle wasn't limited to 4 settings and there was an option to match speeds with your target.

Just click the throttle with your mouse to set an arbitrary speed.
I used to bother setting speeds in increments of 1/8th, but I don't anymore because I've found it really dosen't matter. Going a bit slower than the enemy ship is handy in case they make their trademark unexpected stops.
