Default se4 musings and stuff that bugs me :)

Just sitting here doing some modd testing and realizing that there are a few things in the game that just plain annoy me. Mainly the analyze tech option and the boarding parties.

Capturing a ship and gaining tech is just way to easy. Just sit on a wormhole and wait....then boom, easy colonizers early game and then whatever you need just capture later.....been taking the fun out of my current game, the Drushocka were tough as heck till I just sat a fleet on the wormhole leading to their homesystem and caught the stragglers coming thru. Probally too late now but I'd love to see this changed to instead of just gaining the tech level gain instead a % of research points that the tech was worth in the area it is from. That and boarding a ship, just too easy, should almost be a seperate action like landing troops on a planet (same 'combat engine' too).

That and of course the AI ship builder is 'dumb' in the sense that if I give the security troops function to the bridge etc for more defense it will mess up ship design......wonder what would happen if I add it to the hull itself.....

ugh, anyway...back to testing...

You could add a bunch of intermediate tech levels - i.e. spread out the improvements in APB from 12 to 100 levels

The best TDM races use LC as colonizers early, and then, include self-destruct devices into the colony ships. It's not perferct, but fairly good.

An even better options would be to have analyze option cost Resources and take time to accomplish in and of itself.

Call it reverse engineering.

You can not analyze anything until you have research Reverse Engineering and then when you do analyze something, it cost resources, % for which decrease as Reverse Engineering Tech increases, and each project takes time, again reducing as tech level improves.
