Help Please

Once I have downloaded a shipset with AI (Gold section) from universal shipyards... what do I do with it? Just put it in the SEIV folder or.... ?

I would put it in the picture/races folder in either SEIV or SEIV/MODPack/.
also check in the set to see if there is a designnames.txt, if so, then copy/paste that into the respective designname folder.

They don't appear as zip files ? I get an icon that looks like a word file and when I click on it am asked if I want to use notepad?? I went back and re-downloaded them all and got the same thing. Is this normal?

How are you saving the download?
Also make sure you are clicking the right item to download. It is hard to see sometimes.
Universal transfers you to Tripod.com for the download. If you don't go there and have to click on a download link then you have not downloaded the zip.

I have the same strange problem, but it's easy to fix, just rename the files to filename.zip and it should work fine.

Check the readme, left click on the zip file to preview. Most of the gold sets from shipyards self install. Not all of them do though.
Watch out for some of them, there are spaces and lines missing in some of the general and settings files. You will get a message when you start a game with them about what is missing.
They are some great races though, excellent shipsets!
