Default An idea for TerranC\'s BOB Empire

Hi,

I want to use the BOB Empire shipset in my Proportions game. Since I don't know how to mod the AI I'm just substituting Oleg's SoulHunter AI files at the moment, since they're compatible with Proportions. But here are some ideas I have for the AI_General.txt file:

Cybernaut Communion
(feel free to suggest a better name than "Cybernaut"; this is all I could come up with at the time )

Description:
The Cybernauts are a race of pure spirit grafted onto a robotic form. They are on a religious quest to liberate all sentient life from their corporeal bodies.

Biological Description:
Utilizing technologies far in advance of anything known to the Galaxy at the present time, the Cybernauts have achieved a curious sort of immortality. They have perfected the technique of harnessing and implanting a spiritual entity into a machine body. In this way a Cybernaut individual can continue to interact on the temporal plane indefinitely. When outside of their machine bodies Cybernauts have no physical existence--they exist only as pure spirit--and hence their ability to manipulate physical matter is limited except under conditions of extreme emotional stress (e.g., paranormal phenomena such as ghosts and poltergeists, so-called "haunted" space stations, and the like). Their machine bodies are generally humanoid in appearance, although the Cybernauts have developed various kinds of interchangeable modules that allow them to perform specialized tasks (e.g., combat, research, production). The one distinctive trait of the Cybernaut machine individual is its long, narrow neck and beak-shaped head--believed to house the "spirit"--which reminds one of an evil Version of a "drinking bird," an ancient Terran child's toy. Cybernaut machines possess incredible strength--rivaled only by the boulder-like Drushocka--are highly intelligent, and extremely efficient in construction tasks and resource production.

Society Description:
Very little is known about the Cybernaut's social structure. It is thought that their society is governed by a Communion of advanced spirits, who spend as little time as possible interacting with physical matter. One might suppose that it is only in this way that they can be sufficiently enlightened to govern wisely. The Communion then makes its wishes known to the Cybernaut's corporeal representive, a machine known simply as Leader One, who executes policy. This is believed to be necessary since most Cybernauts are considered to be "weaker" spirits, and hence are still dependent upon an archaic hierarchical culture--and also for the purposes of interacting with other races.

General History Description:
It is believed that the Cybernauts were once corporeal, a race of brilliant scientists in fact. Their homeworld was probably destroyed by a stellar manipulation experiment gone wrong, which had the side-effect of trapping their spirits in the temporal plane. Some reacted to this new existence with wonder. The complete freedom it afforded to explore the Galaxy and pursue absolute knowledge seemed endless. Unfortunately, most Cybernauts seemed to descend into total madness. Many philosophers agree that this may be the source of all paranormal phenomena in the Galaxy. It is not known how the Cybernauts eventually developed the technology to transfer themselves into machine bodies, but the motive is clear: to preserve the sanity of those "weaker" spirits who could not cope with spending eternity trapped on the temporal plane. But it also gave the Cybernauts the power to interact efficiently with corporeal life forms, so that they could be converted to the Cybernauts' "superior" sense of enlightenment. For it turns out that the Cybernauts have been thus far unsuccessful at reproducing themselves. Hence they can only increase their numbers through enslaving the spirits of other races, though the Cybernauts earnesly see themselves as liberators in a righteous crusade. Corporeal life forms, beware!

Here is the race portrait from State of Art Spaceyards site:

EDIT: Those who have read the novel Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura may notice similarities between the Cybernauts and the Ssi-ruuk.

Go ahead. Change it up as much as you want. That's what it was made for.

I sense someone here got an idea from stargate sg1, if not it's pretty familliar (enlightened spirits and all)

Great Idea. Of course i prefer the name TerranC Originally came up with, i won't post it just in case he wants to keep it a running joke, but PM him to find out. But it's always good to see people straying from the organic race option
