Any weapon mofo. "Glass" is just slang for completly destroying all of the population and facilities by bombardment from orbit.

As opposed to dropping troops on the planet and capturing it.

Keep in mind glassing the planet does lower its value if you then colonize it with your own race.

But sometimes it just feels good....

During the early tests of nuclear fission weapons in the deserts of the southwest in the 1940s, it was noticed that the extreme heat of the fission bLasts caused the silica of the sands to melt into a kind of greenish glassy substance. Little balls of the same glass like material are also a key indicator of the area of a big meteor or comet strike on the earth in the distant past.

Therefore, to "Glass" a planet means to hit it with weapons of such mass destructive force as to melt it down to a glassy slag, destroying all life and traces of civilization in the process.

Welcome to our universe of SE4. Only the strong survive here. Call it a kind of galactic social Darwinism if you will.

But what we do can't really be considered glassing since the planets can still support life afterwards. Conditions don't deteriorate, only values. And imo rad should maybe go up, organics drop to rock bottom and mineral stay mainly unchanged or jusy slightly reduced. Across the board reduction doesn't make sense imo.

But glassing is a nice term to use, so maybe I shouldn't nitpick about it.

Glassing is what you do to the major portions of the planet witch are habittable, so it makes sence, plus it sound cool
