When the ai's turn comes around you get another turn of ground combat. The battle continues with however many troops you have left against the troops and militia the planet can muster.

One thing I noticed once thogh. Each turn of ground combat the militia numbers are reset to whatever amount they had at the begining of the first turn. Same thing happens if you have two troop ships and the first ships troops are repulsed.

Hmm, I didn't notice this when I was using GC. What were the circumstances? Last time I had an ongoing combat, things went as was expected, and both side's numbers were lower until I won a few turns later...

I remember this happening in the demo, but it appeared to have been fixed in regular ground combat. I guess it still reoccurs on contested planets.

I've only seen militia repopulated each time my ships shields repset. Never repopulate within a single incident of combat. And I have had several transports attack a planet in waves and wore down the defenders via several assaults.

I have seen this BUG in the 1.19 patch during regular combat. Not very fun!

Check the research files of the race in question. If they don't have 'troops' in there then they most likely won't be invading planets.

Well, it's been a while since I've seen it happen. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.

What's the point of troops. I tried to invade a home world with around 200 Med troops and got completely destroyed.

Even if you have say three big transports you can only land one at a time during Tactical combat.
Why can't you land ALL of the troops at once???

If you don't destroy the weapons platforms on a planet, you can have problems. Otherwise, unless you're setting your ground combat really low, it shouldn't be that big a deal to take over a planet with one freighter full of troops.

What kind of weapons are you giving your troops? I like the small organic ones, namely the electric discharge or whatever it's called. Not only is it good damage per turn, you can build troops more quickly because of the balanced mineral costs.

I had it set to 75% and had organic weapons.

But the still think that the biggest problem is that you can not land all of your fleeted transports on the planet at one time.

If you land a 1 of them at a time, the chances are that you lose each combat. But if you where able to land them all at once then you would win!

Just a thought!
