Scanners - WTF?
ok - I know I should know this but I don't
what is the deal w/all the different types of scanners?
you have the Long Range scanners that you can place on a ship/unit that can scan a ship/unit up to 5 spaces away depending on your tech level so long as the target doesn't have a scanner jammer.
but what do the Tachyon, Optic, Gravitational, EM, Passive, whatever components do? Why would you use those?
do they do something the Long Range scanner doesn't do?

Re: Scanners - WTF?
They allow you to see through cloaking devices.
The reason there are different types is because either Aaron planned to add different scanners that were effective against certain types of Cloaking or just options for modders.
I think a couple of mods employ that One type of scanner is more effective than others depending on what type of cloaking they use. Either way, in Stock SEIV scanners do the same as each other, you only need one type from Hyper-Optics, Tachyon, Gravtic, Temporal or Psychic to see through claoking devices of an equal level

Don't confuse sensors with scanners.
Sensors (gravitic, hyperoptic etc) are used against cloaking.
Scanners enable you to see a ship's contents.

I believe modders can already implement this, if they want: A cloaking device could be modded that protects against phsychic sensors, but not gravitic ones, and so on. The reason you don't see it as that you ge to the point where all ships are practically invisible unless you research 5 different tech trees to their extreme...

Re: Scanners - WTF?
Well I've no problem with scanners, but sensors... now that's funny. If I have a psychic cloak at lvl 5, but EM cloak only lvl 2, then a crummy EM sensor 2 by my understanding would see my ship?

Pretty much i think, i think thats why Aaron implemented it the way he did in Stock SEIV

In other words; you're really good at hiding your thoughts, but you didn't realize that your hot-pink paintjob was a bad idea.
