Changing Player Preferences During Game

If you can change the settings during the game, it seems like it would be too tempting for some to cheat. I can see the logic in changing them before any units are purchased or just to look at them after units are purchased, but I don't see why you can change them during the game. Since I play most of my games against the AI, maybe I'm missing something here. I have very little experience playing against human opponents. I don't know, maybe you can look at them but you can't save them.

You cannot change preferences in a PBEM game. So not versus a human opponent, just the AI.
