GoR and Afflicted Units
This is probably a wishful thinking, but take the following case:
In a single province with multiple units some of which are afflicted and some are not, the UI Gift of Reason will not give you the opportunity to distinguish between the afflicted, unafflicted units. Can anyone out there tell me if GoR is smart enough to choose the unafflicted units? Or, is it necessary to move out the afflicted units if you want to guarantee GoRing the desired unit?
And a corollary question - if it GoR does not automatically choose the unafflicted units, if you are moving the afflicted units out on the same turn as casting GoR, would it perhaps be the case that GoR will not select units that have move orders, where units w/o move orders are still in the province?
TIA,
Thufir

Re: GoR and Afflicted Units
GoR does not choose on the basis of what you want
and it will affect units you are moving out as the magic phase occurs before movement.
Even worse, if you have two units of the same type and you attempt to GoR both, it is possible (likely?) that both castings of GoR will be on the same unit...

Of course - I knew such a thing would be too good to be true, but hope springs eternal!

yeah, that figures too

Now that's unpleasant! Not a situation I need to worry about yet, but this would be one case where I might still hope that the code would be "smart" enough not to do that.

Re: GoR and Afflicted Units
Um, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but you are able to right click the units listed in the gift of reason display to get a better look at the unit on which you'll be spending your 20 nature gems.

That doesn't help.
Within a given unit type, the units are not all the same, and it would be better (and appropriate) to be able to pick a specific unit, rather than just unit type. One obvious example of how units of the same type may differ, is that some can have various afflictions while others do not, and clearly, you would prefer to know your GoR casting was cast on the unafflicted unit.

Which is why you right-click on the unit to see which one you are selecting.

Well, that's counterintuitive! At least to me, anyhow. So, in otherwords, GoR force-picks a unit for you (at the time you create your orders), but at least you can tell which unit it has picked. Do I have this right (now)?

Re: GoR and Afflicted Units
they don't always all show. for instance, in one (now dead) game, if i try to cast GoR, it will give me two tartarian monstrums to choose from (i have two) but only 1 monstra and 1 tartarian spirit (i have 3 and 2 respectively). there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason - the two monstrums are identical, as are the others.

I don't think so. I think you get a list of specific units to pick from, and can choose which unit you want to gift.
As for why not all the units might show up, I don't know. Maybe in the example, the units were different in some way you didn't know about, such as amounts of experience lower than a whole star, or home province?

Re: GoR and Afflicted Units
no. they were identical un-GoRed tartarians, no experience, same home province...
some show, some don't. you can see this anytime you have a bunch of chaff units too - sometimes one "mechanical man", say, will show up as a GoR option. sometimes two, or three.
