Multiplayer
Okay, I've never played multiplayer before/yet with SE4, so any tips on differences from playing the single player/AI game would be appreciated. Could be an informative thread for all new to multiplayer I guess...

Re: Multiplayer
Cool, thanks. Good info there, but also looking for more technical information.
I like to analyse a lot. Do people play a turn per day...
What about custom stuff, races and that, I would just have to use what I made called the Kilrathi, and I'm sure others do, so you have to have all the races and stuff?
I know, I know, I am going to the PBW site now and read up there, heh heh. Thanks peoples.
EDIT: Everytime I ask something, I find a thread already here with related info, heh heh. Oh well.
Oh, and if I have added a thing that adds additional planets (doesn't modify originals, just adds more images and updates that in secttype.txt) does that matter when playing a PBW game? Thanks peoples.

Re: Multiplayer
well, i could probably just wait a while for you to find some older thread on that Last question, but im such a hatefull person in real life that for some reason i get a sick pleasure from being helpfull Online. go figure.
in Version 1.49, the game does a check to make sure that everyone is running on the same data files (to avoid cheating). therefore, some of the hacks that worked in earlier Versions that would let the game host change files without sending them to the players, no longer work. ergo, if you make a change to the game that involves editing a file, the updated copies of those files must be distributed to all the players of the game.
the easiest way to do this of course, is to use a mod. that way people just have to change their path to point to the mod and dont have to actually shuffle files about. if you have not found it already, check out Matryx's "mod picker utility" which makes switching between mods simple and easy.
cheers

edit: actually, if you are just adding images, you might be able to get away with it, it would just be that the other players would not see the new pics. instead they would see the originals. some of the files are not checked by the server, the sectortypes.txt very well may be one of them.
