Awe
My prophet has heroic awe with a awe factor of 10.
What does this mean?
The gold shield only gets him awe 11 so it does not seem worth wasting a slot. But is there any use in trying to boost him in this area?

Re: Awe
See page 56 in your manual for a description what Awe does. No, the shield wouldn't make much sense with an awe value already that high.

Re: Awe
Pgs. 50 and 56 of the manual describe Awe.
To me, it seems not worthwhile to go from awe +10 to +11, perhaps charcoal shield or the eyeloss shield would be more effective.

Re: Awe
Let me see......
Morale check is M+DRN+bonus
DRN is 2d6 so the average is 6
Figure a basic morale of 10
Survivor bonus say 5
So 10 plus 6 plus 5 = 21 at the start of the battle.
So the chart says a 46% chance of attacking. Lesser troops or a few kills and the chance of being attacked drops to 1 in 4 or 5. Not good enough to draw him out of the back field.
However at 25 he only has to worry about special troops.

Re: Awe
No, it doesn't work like that - Awe+0 counts as '10' if you like, i.e. a unit with morale 10 has a roughly 50% change (54 or 46, not sure which) or hitting a unit with Awe+0. Also the survivor bonus doesn't apply to awe. So basically no remotely normal units will ever hit you with Awe either 10 or 11. That is extremely powerful.

Re: Awe
What you are saying is a little different from the book. Depending on the page.
The prophet awe check is 10 + 10 awe for a 20 or 21 with shield + DRN.
Moral check pg 79 is about the "squad"
Squad morale + DRN + survivor bonus
So you are saying the INDIVIDUAL trooper check for awe is HIS morale + DRN VS my "20" + DRN right?
This would subtract 5 off his roll at the start of the battle. So you are saying only special troops with very high moral could attack.
The stat chart on DRN is page 5.

Re: Awe
Yep, pretty much saying only very special troops could attack.
Normal awe (+0) is itself very powerful. It's what you get if you take dom 9 on a pretender, and is very worthwhile.

Re: Awe
Put a horror helm on that prophet. Then even less troops will be able to attack him.

Re: Awe
He's a lot less likely to be killed in melee than by a stray arrow, or a cloud/area effect, or spells, or fatigue, or the battle turn limit.
So don't bother adding items that will help him defend against melee more. Instead, I think you should boost his MR and immunities, and give him a passive or area attack (like a charcoal shield as mentioned, or a snake bladder stick). Plus give him some sort of protection from missiles.

Re: Awe
Hmm... Does the Eye shield give eyeloss upon an attempted attack, or does it have to be a successful damage-dealing attack?
