Deathmatch items
I think I read somewhere that cursed items will be picked up in the Death Match. Ich corrected me, so I tested it out.
Here's some results from various tests:
#1 Ulm defeated Man, Man's hero had an Eye of Aiming. Ulm did not aquire the Eye of Aiming
#2 Ulm won the tournament, and was wielding a cursed weapon (Harvest Blade). The Ulm hero picked up the trident and put the Harvest Blade in the Lab.
#3 Abysia won the tournament, killing Ulm's HarvestBlade-wielding hero. Abysia's hero put the Harvest Blade in the lab, and wielded the trident.
Conclusion: Ich is right! And I no longer live in fear of Slave Collars.
One other thing I saw is that items are put in the lab even if all your labs are burned down. When you build a new lab, the items will be there.

Re: Deathmatch items
vfb it looks to me like your test is invalid. In both cases the item found conflicted with the Trident of Quickness or whatever you get from the DM. You should try it with misc items only - or at least, no hand items.

Re: Deathmatch items
The Eye of Aiming is cursed, and Ulm did not acquire it. I wonder if Ulm had its miscellaneous slots filled though?

Re: Deathmatch items
The chance to "aquire" an item from the battlefield is higher for cursed items, and gets better for items from higher research levels - but it isn't 100% in any case.
AFAIK. Exact machincs could have changed silenty, though.

Re: Deathmatch items
My subjective impression is that the chance is also higher if it's from a dead unit on your own side. Even Earth Boots get picked up pretty reliably when one of my mages dies.

Sorry, my original post should have read 'I think I read somewhere that cursed items will always be picked up in the Death Match.'
Turns out that it's not the case. I don't want to test anymore because it's a pain to set it up and hit next turn until a Death Match finally comes around. And I'm too lazy to mod in a level 1 Wish to kick off the Death Match right away.
The reason I mentioned the Harvest Blade was because I was surprised it was 'unwielded' even though it is cursed.

No, Ulm had an open misc spot.

That seems strange to me. From what I expect from personal experience, Abysia shouldn't have acquired anything from fighting Ulm in the death-match at all, The Harvest Blade should have been lost when the hero wielding it got defeated. Then again, I might not be right after all, but I believe that the only thing that you acquire in the death-match is the trident (or you die).

Re: Deathmatch items
Well, I tested it, and that's what happened.
Abysia definitely got an item in addition to the trident. I'll have to do another test someday where I put more items on the units, to see if I can get the winner to pick something else up. And I should test with non-Artifact items too. Some day .
All I really cared about was the minor cursed items, and whether they are all automatically picked up or not.

Re: Deathmatch items
You can get items from the deathmatch other than the trident. That much is verifiable.
