Default FJ Vs. Polish Assault Rafts

Hi,

I'm playing a long campaign with Germany. My core force is a company of Fallschirmj�gers. My first battle is a meeting engagement against Poland. I chose a pre-made map (the Rozan Map) which has a small river dividing the map in half. The victory hexes were located in the center of the map in a town (Rozan) just on my side of the river. A bridge crosses the river (from the polish side) into the town. My troops jumped into drop zones just west of the town, and advanced to the objectives on foot. Reaching the edge of the river, they have discovered large numbers of Polish Assault Rafts, apparently "beached" one hex inland from the river, on the western bank (my side), but no Polish troops were anywhere near the rafts.
The poles made a limited attempt at crossing the bridge (with some cavalry), but otherwise seem content to mass up on the far bank and do little else. The bridge is intact. 1st question - what's up with the rafts? They just lay on the bank, let me shoot them up, and occasionally fire back with pistols. Question two - the Poles seem reluctant or unable to cross the river. Is this a limitation of the Computer AI? Or is there a problem because the mission is a meeting engagement, rather than a river crossing?

I'll have to look into this but my first guess is the game is very confused. It thinks it's fighting a meeting engagement but it's found a map with the river assault flags set and has generated the rafts.

The game was not originally designed to allow personalized maps in campaigns. We added that ability so players could create and fight on their own maps but specialty maps like river or beach assault maps can cause problems as you've discovered and should be avoided

Yes, that map flagged as a river crossing and that battle being a meeting engagement has confused the game. What's happening is the AI troops are carrying the rafts to the river and launching them but not getting in. The "crew" of the raft is rowing them to the other side and then they sit there. The game doesn't know it's supposed to load the units into the boats because it's not flagged as river crossing right from the start.

That's the long answer. The short answer is don't do that Don't use custom beach or river maps unless the battle type given to you is a beach assault or a river assault and then I still wouldn't advise it for those battle types because custom maps are rarely built with the AI deploy routine in mind so by all means use custom maps for anything but the specialty battles and avoid custom river and beach maps altogether for any generated battle game.

If they had actually got into the Rafts you would have had your hands full. There are lot's of Poles on their side of the River

True, but when the only way across is one bridge, the results are hardly fair. I'll give the credit though - they're brave!

I have some intresting notices. That isn't a AI mistake. That is the problem with pontoons capity. Assalut boot can take only 14 soliders but polish squad have 19 So the carry rafts but can't get inside and rafts swim emptyp on the secound shore. Next problem Cavalery carry cost 29. This units too carys rafts and can't use them. But cavalery historical don't need them horses can swim and usualy typical cavalery units swim on horses throught rivers. SO the best solution of this problem should be made cavalery units swiming with speed 2 hexes for example and forbiden them in game code carring rafts. The units with small carry cost like patrol (cost 4) and wz.35 AT-Rifle (Cost 2) in this example normaly crosing the river on boots. I attached this game as a mision because I want look at this in the game editor.

Hmmmmmm.... you may have a point about the squad size Blaj. I hadn't thought of that and I'll check into it. There were a lot of little things like that that bit us when we increased the squad size but I thought we'd caught them all.

You were absolutly correct about the raft carry capacity and why the squads wouldn't load. Now fixed. I'll check other nations for this problem as well and I'll look into the cavalry issue.
