Default PBEM refit issues - any answers?

Hi all,

Having scanned past Posts to the forum I am still in the dark as to why some pbem simultaneous play refits work correctly and some do not. (accounts differ and no clear opinion seems to exist)

The situation;

Trying to refit a group of 30 warships to an improved design (upgraded guns and computers) - total diference in cost is negligable.

Single ships can be refit without a problem, - large Groups in the same game have been successfully refitted previously.

With this group however it appears to be impossible to refit more than one per turn.

They are stationed around a planet + moon system with 12 space station space yards for a total of 14 space yards in the sector.

They are not in a fleet, they are all of an identical input class, there are plenty of resources in the bank. I multi-select all the ships to be refitted, click refit, and chose the upgrade and close the screen. Prior to the end turn all the ships selected are marked with "refit to X" orders.

But alas, only one ship is ever refitted.

As I said, in the same game I have previously managed to refit more than one ship at a time. I cannot understand why this case is different.

Any ideas would be appreciated - is this actually a recognised bug? are there work-arounds for the problem?

Thanks in advance

AndyC

Have you tried giving them all retro orders one-by-one?

IE. retro one, close the window, retro another?
Or faster, select one, hit retro, select another, hit retro, etc.

Yep, no joy alas, same result - only one ship gets refitted.

What confuses me is that I have definately managed a successful multi-ship refit before in the game I am playing by simply multi-selecting all the ships to be refitted - and clicking refited (choosing the design) and closing the screen.

I am trying to puzzle out exactly what has changed and what the problems/workarounds might be....

thanks though ...

Maybe try a pack of five at a time?

It could be you can only give one retro order, but if you give too many at once, it chokes.

'fraid not, batch of 5, batch of ten - still no joy... my only reasonable course of action is to split the fleet amongst existing starbases in other sectors but it is micromanagement hell.

I just want to understand why it worked before but doesn't now ...

A patch issue perhaps?

This is a recurring problem for me too and annoying as hell. Same goes for mothball/unmothball and Self-destruct orders for mines and sats.

Have you tried selecting Ship 0001, then press retrofit button, select Ship 0001, give retrofit order, leave screen, select Ship 0002, press retrofit button, give retrofit order, leave screen, selecr Ship 0003 and so on? Not even when you do that does it always work, but sometimes it does.

This bug (and I'm convinced it's a bug) can really put a monkey wrench into your plans and time tables. I've been delayed many turns because of this some times and when I finally get it all done and the fleet in question where it was going it was inadequate when it got there but would have been more than enough if things had worked as they should.

Does anyome know if Aaron is even aware of this problem? I think I reported it a long time ago (several patches) but I'm not sure.
