Simultaneous Movement
Boy, it's sure different, isn't it?
I tell you, learning it in the process of playing in a tournament is nerve-wracking, too.
I wish I could talk about it, but I'm afraid of conceding some vital information by doing so...
so I will simply repeat, "eeek, eeek, eeek! ook! ook!"

Re: Simultaneous Movement
Here some help;
You can't upgrade or scrap a ship when it is a fleet.
Sometimes launch orders don't work off planets.

Re: Simultaneous Movement
Im in the same boat as you Possum, first PBEM game and its a tournament...
Takes a little getting used to, especially not being able to move ships on the turn they are produced, and taking 1 turn just to load population into the colony ship.
Speaking of nerves... i havent even come across any of the other players in my game, thats got me worried that when i meet them they will have a very large welcoming party to meet and greet my homeworlds... i guess ill have to wait and see, and have my own welcoming party to meet the neighbours.

Me, too. I think the thing that concerns me the most is that, judging from the timestamps in the site log, all the other players in my game know what they're doing well enough that they can finish their turns and upload them in one half to one quarter of the time that it takes me. [Though a large part of the difference is likely caused by my obsessive-compulsive micromanagement of my empire. ] There was even a turn where I uploaded Last and kicked off the turn execution, and one of the other players submitted their next turn before I did.

Then you learn that these things aren't really true... ;->

Re: Simultaneous Movement
Gimboid, capnq, I hear ya, guys. Too bad they didn't put all us newbies in the same game, instead of spreading us out to be sharkbait for the experienced gamers.
I got something going on in Game 1 that really puzzles me, too. Somebody I had had no previous contact with suddenly comes through an unexplored WP with 10 ships, immediately declares war, and slags my planet. This is only turn 15, too.
Now, do you usually explore with 10 ships? And if he wasn't exploring, how did he know I was there?
It kinda smells to me like there's something fishy going on...

Re: Simultaneous Movement
Isn't there an Intel project that tells you where someone's colony is?

Re: Simultaneous Movement
No previous contact means that intel was not possible.
A third party sharing system maps & stuff could have tipped him off, though.
Also, if you have system maps, but no vision in the system, you can just look at each planet, and find the one with 120%/120%/120%, which must be a homeworld!

Sounds like the invaders used some of their racial points to get ancient race, which allows them to see the map at the begining, although not the current positions. But as SJ said, if you look for planets that seem like homeworlds, i.e. the same size as yours, all 3 values around 100%, then you can have likely targets for your fleet. Then if one is close enough to a warppoint, and you turn off "clear orders upon entering system with enemy ships", just add water, and viola, instant sneak attack.

Re: Simultaneous Movement
Nice theory, Geo, but they don't have Ancient Race.
I'm sure there is a perfectly legit explanation, no problem. I wasn't implying anything, umm, underhanded.
On a brighter note, I just took two turns back-to-back. I was Last guy in with my turn, so I got another one in a few minutes, while the situation is still fresh in my mind. Usually I spend 10 minutes refreshing my grasp of the situation, and 30 seconds deciding what to do.
Anyways, I just retrofitted 2 ships, (at different shipyards), with no problem.
