Infogrames/Quicksilver Bids to Acquire Malfador
By Milo Bloom
SILICON VALLEY (AP) -- In a joint press conference in this morning, Infogrames Corp. and Quicksilver Software announced that they will acquire Malfador Machinations, an independent gaming company. If the deal goes through, they will thus gain control of the relatively unknown but critically acclaimed "Space Empires" game franchise.
With the acquisition, the same design team that produced the game Masters of Orion III will take over the production of Space Empires V, due to be released next summer.
"The combined resources of Malfador and
Quicksilver Software will allow us to make SEV easier and more fun for a broader range of people. The design philosophy behind MOO3 will be applied to the Space Empires genre, and we anticipate the same successful results," an Infogrames spokesman said.
