Re: Have any of you all ever played Stars!? Wanna PBEM?(Please???)
Stars! is such a cool game. I wish I had a legit copy, I would play you...
Where can you buy it, nowadays? Maybe I'll check Ebay.
I liked using packet physics to glass people's planets. It was like filling up a VERY LARGE GUN and bLasting away at their planet! So cool..

Packet physics races is one of the reasons I liked Alternate Reality.

Re: Have any of you all ever played Stars!? Wanna PBEM?(Please???)
what about we set up a demo game of stars!?
it will be a limited universe (i think the demo only allows small and tiny universes) and we will have only 10 tech leves in each Category (but since there are 6 categories the total would be 60 tech levels and we willbe limited to the pre-generated races from the demo (there are 6 if i remember correctly)...
the advantage of playing the demo would be that everyone that wants could play it, and will be good for the newbies, because veterans of stars! would no be capable of using some advanced tactics that are only feasible at higher tech levels... (i can be considered a vet of stars! but my playing style is horrible, so i prefer to be considered a veteran newbie ).
So, what you think people?

If you all are still up for it I am, get the Version I demo from the links earlier in the thread and I'll host it. Also you can custom name the default races and give them passwords, this will be important for you to do.
Or, if you want I can still customize a race for you and you can load that into your game.(yes this works on the demo, I've tried it )Just tell me your specs. and preferences and I'll do the best I can.

Re: Have any of you all ever played Stars!? Wanna PBEM?(Please???)
i'm still here... lurking.......
but seriously: a good start game would be a 6-player game in a small universe with the demo Version, with every player selecting one of the pre-generated races....
I suggest that you (Hugh manate) try to get the name & e-mail of the players that want to play with the demo and ask them to sendo their race files (that will be one of the pre-generated races of the demo with only modifications in the name and simbols), then generate a game.....
Put me in your list, my e-mail is [email protected]
When you have at least more 4 players (that with you and me will be 6), send a mail to each one requesting their race files, so we can start....

Ah, and instead of downloading the demo Version available in the official site, download instead the shareware Version 26b available at this site:
http://library.southern.edu/stars/kn2050.htm
It's an earlier Version without the 80 turn limit of the demo Version available in the official site, but it have all the other limitations (no custom races, only 10 tech levels, only small maps, etc.).

Re: Have any of you all ever played Stars!? Wanna PBEM?(Please???)
You know, I have the full Version of Stars, bought it a couple of years ago but never really got into the game that much. The tutorial was excellent, but my mind just could not grasp the basics. I would get to tired to keep learning. Tis a major problem I have now a days. Damn disabling deases!
I should dedicate some time to playing it again. It is one of the most revered games out.
Say, is SEIII a good game? Been thinking about buying it too.

Re: Have any of you all ever played Stars!? Wanna PBEM?(Please???)
Atrocities, yes SE3 is very good, it's like the evolutionary link between SEII ans SEIV. and if your at all interested, I'll take you to school in Stars! if you want ,what is your Version, I got the I Version, as I experienced compatibility problems with Version J,, I worked just fine anyway.
BTW, if you get SE3, get that disc combo that has SE3 SE2 and SE1 on it, it also has a ****load of extras and mods. You can't call yourself a Hardcore SE nut if you don't.
