Re: Getting my butt handed to me playing the demo!
Thanks Xietor,
Now that I have my full copy in hand, I look forward to trying out the many modded races, maps, etc.
Is there any website or post that rates the various mods (maps, new races, etc.)?

Re: Getting my butt handed to me playing the demo!
My first play on the demo i always put the independant to 9, without that the AI was always going a lot more quickly than me at gaining ground and strength.
Of course, there was a lot about the game i didn't knew, so i was making mistakes after mistakes .
(the worst one was to "turtle" a bit , thinking i would get some good army, the AI just walked all over those armies when i thought they wee good enough).
Really a great game

Re: Getting my butt handed to me playing the demo!
In my first couple of weeks in the game i struggle too - playing on medium map with 3 normal AI opponents. I have no problems 1 on 1 against them, but struggle when I get hit on two fronts. Last game I tried to rush my nearest neighbour to rpevent that, and took out his capital and most of his army, but got hit at home before I could finish him off, resulting in a 2 front war that was pretty much a stalemate
In my current game I seem to be doing better (despite copping an affliction on my wyrm pretender in my first battle) and have hopes of winning, but we'll see!
what i'm gathering is the need to be more efficient with my armies. In order to build the size of armies I currently need to bash the AI around, i end up economy starved, and tend to take what are probably excessive casualties. Presumably some better choices and use of equipment are what's in order. Or perhaps fewer researchers sitting at home and more investment in research items in stead, in order to cut the costs somewhat. We'll see, its great to have a game where there is so much to learn

Look at the "Mod List" thread, pinned in the Mods&c forum.
Also have a look at the Strategy Index :

A lot of usefull inspiration here. Although I confess making noobs errors is part of the fun. After all, why would you trust those guys writing guides since they are potential ennemies ?
